The BMW 2 Series has a current nationwide average price of $31,758, and that figure reached a low of $30,371 over the past year. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the BMW 2 Series a good car?
Yes — the BMW 2 Series is a strong pick if you want a compact BMW that puts driving enjoyment first. The all-generations owner rating is 4.96/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the 2 Series for its sharp handling, strong performance, and sporty feel. Many also appreciate the comfort and luxury touches that make it feel polished for everyday driving. Across the lineup, the car’s driver-focused character and premium cabin details come through as recurring strengths.
Expert reviews rate the 2015 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs are the cramped back seat, firm ride, and technology that can feel unintuitive in some newer versions. For used shoppers, that means you get a car with real enthusiast appeal, but you should expect a compact footprint and premium-car ownership costs.
35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are BMW 2 Series models reliable?
Owners consistently describe the BMW 2 Series as rewarding to drive, with strong performance and a sporty character that holds up well across the lineup. Expert commentary also points to quality materials and a well-rounded driving experience, especially in the years that emphasize handling and everyday usability.
- Owners rate the BMW 2 Series between 4.67 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is tied more to premium-car upkeep and running costs than to the core appeal of the car itself.
What should I look for when buying a used BMW 2 Series?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 84.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 96.1% |
| 2025 | 95.7% |
| 2024 | 94.2% |
| 2023 | 88.4% |
| 2022 | 79.5% |
| 2021 | 73.5% |
| 2020 | 68.2% |
| 2019 | 65.9% |
| 2018 | 60.4% |
| 2017 | 57.7% |
| 2016 | 55.4% |
| 2015 | 54.8% |
| 2014 | 56.3% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Infotainment: 2025 models come with a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The entry level 228 xDrive Gran Coupe is rated at 241 horsepower, which is 13 hp more than the previous version’s powertrain. The M235 xDrive Gran Coupe we drove increases output to 312 hp, which is 10 hp more than its predecessor. These second-generation Gran Coupes feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive (AWD) is standard. An even more affordable front-wheel-drive (FWD) 228 Gran Coupe is due for the 2026 model year, though.
Which BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?
The 2025 BMW 2 Series offers these trims:
- 228 xDrive Gran Coupe: This is the entry-level trim, and it brings the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, 241 horsepower, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, standard all-wheel drive, adaptive dampers, a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system. It suits you if you want the most affordable way into the redesigned Gran Coupe.
- M235 xDrive Gran Coupe: This trim adds 312 horsepower, upgraded brakes, a rear spoiler, unique interior trim, sport seats, a sport steering wheel, and available M Performance upgrades such as a sport suspension, M brakes, M Sport seats, and 19-inch wheels with performance tires. It is the best-value choice if you want the strongest performance and the most complete enthusiast setup.
What BMW 2 Series do most buyers choose?
The BMW 2 Series years with the most listings are 2025, 2026, and 2024.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 1,561 | 35.8% |
| 2026 | 1,271 | 36.3% |
| 2024 | 1,084 | 36.1% |
| 2023 | 716 | 34.5% |
| 2027 | 691 | 35.5% |
| 2022 | 649 | 35.9% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more choices on price, mileage, and equipment, which makes them easier starting points when you want to compare similar cars side by side. They also tend to be the years shoppers return to most often because inventory is deeper and deal opportunities are easier to find.
What is the BMW 2 Series's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $37,335 | −17.97% |
| 2021 | $21,531 | −10.97% |
| 2022 | $25,848 | −7.87% |
| 2023 | $33,863 | −7.03% |
| 2024 | $34,189 | −6.09% |
| 2020 | $22,675 | −5.02% |
| 2016 | $16,246 | −3.04% |
| 2015 | $15,470 | −0.01% |
| 2017 | $18,570 | +2.27% |
| 2018 | $22,298 | +5.57% |
Most model years are moving lower year over year, which is good news if you want to buy used after the initial price drop has already happened. A few older years are moving up, showing that some versions are still in demand. Overall, the table points to a market where recent models are softening while select older examples continue to attract buyers.
The 2015 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2018, 2017, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Get a FULLY loaded version. Don't skimp out on the options. iDrive 8.5 is not customizable, the head unit is locked down hard so you can't access any fun things with your obd2 and Bimmercode. That was very disappointing....

BMW 2 Series test drive
overall

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is both affordable and suitably sporty.
The redesigned 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe adds a bit more power and technology. While it may be the least expensive BMW model, it makes only a few sacrifices on the sharp end of performance to get there. For most drivers, this entry-level sedan will be a great appetizer to the rest of the lineup.
Verdict: The all-new 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is a relative bargain among compact luxury cars, leading shoppers to the brand’s pricier and more athletic models. However, if your preferences favor performance over practicality, you might want to consider spending just a bit more for the two-door 2 Series coupe.
