The BMW 2 Series's current nationwide average price is $31,596, and its year-round low is $30,402.10. That gives you a useful snapshot of where this model is trading right now across the lineup. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the BMW 2 Series a good car?
Yes — the BMW 2 Series earns strong marks from owners and has a clear enthusiast appeal. The all-generations owner rating is 4.96/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the 2 Series for its performance, sharp handling, and sporty feel, along with the comfort and luxury touches that make it enjoyable to live with. Across the model years, the recurring themes are driving enjoyment, premium character, and a balance of everyday usability with engaging dynamics.
Expert reviews rate the 2015 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs called out in expert reviews are a firm ride, a cramped back seat, and technology that can feel unintuitive in some versions. 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are BMW 2 Series models reliable?
Owners consistently rate the BMW 2 Series highly, and the review summaries point to a model that delivers strong performance and a sporty driving experience while still feeling comfortable in daily use. Expert commentary also repeatedly highlights the 2 Series’ engaging handling and premium feel.
- Owners rate the BMW 2 Series between 4.67 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most tied to the usual premium-car costs, so it makes sense to budget carefully for maintenance and fuel.
What should I look for when buying a used BMW 2 Series?

| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2027 | 96.5% |
| 2026 | 96.5% |
| 2025 | 95.8% |
| 2024 | 94.1% |

| 2017 | 58.9% |
| 2016 | 54.4% |
| 2015 | 52.9% |
| 2014 | 52.8% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Infotainment: 2025 models come standard with a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The entry level 228 xDrive Gran Coupe is rated at 241 horsepower, which is 13 hp more than the previous version’s powertrain. The M235 xDrive Gran Coupe we drove increases output to 312 hp, which is 10 hp more than its predecessor. These second-generation Gran Coupes feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive (AWD) is standard. An even more affordable front-wheel-drive (FWD) 228 Gran Coupe is due for the 2026 model year, though. In addition to the bumped-up power, the BMW M235 further benefits from upgraded brakes, a rear spoiler, unique interior trim, sport seats, and a sport steering wheel. As noted above, our particular Gran Coupe also came with the optional M Performance package that adds a sport suspension, M brakes, M Sport seats, and 19-inch wheels with performance tires that enable a higher top speed of 155 mph (compared to 130 mph for other tire options). BMW claims the M235 will accelerate to 60 mph in a quick 4.5 seconds, while the 228 should get there in 6 seconds. Power is plentiful enough that you'll never feel the need to floor the pedal when launching up a freeway onramp or when passing slower traffic. Gear changes are quick and smooth in these conditions, and unlike some other dual-clutch transmissions, the Gran Coupe is also fairly smooth and predictable at parking-lot speeds. Brake pedal effort is lighter than we'd expect from a sporty BMW, but when called upon, the brakes bring this small sedan to a very quick stop and we didn’t experience any performance loss with heavy use. On a challenging, twisty road, the xDrive AWD system does an admirable job of eliminating the front-end traction issues that limit the cornering performance of the Mini Cooper. There's plenty of grip to accelerate out of a curve, though the Gran Coupe still has a hint of the telltale nose-heaviness of its FWD-derived platform. All Gran Coupe models come standard with adaptive dampers, which allow you to choose between softer or firmer settings. With the M Performance package, it's biased more toward the firm side and tends to transmit a lot of jostling into the cabin. It's not so stiff as to be considered harsh, though.
Which BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?
The 2025 BMW 2 Series offers these trims:
- 228 xDrive Gran Coupe: This is the entry point and the best-value trim, with a 241-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, standard all-wheel drive, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, adaptive dampers, and a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- M235 xDrive Gran Coupe: This trim adds 312 horsepower, upgraded brakes, a rear spoiler, unique interior trim, sport seats, and a sport steering wheel, making it the pick if you want the most performance-focused version.
What BMW 2 Series do most buyers choose?
The BMW 2 Series years with the most listings are 2025, 2026, and 2024.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 1,565 | 34.9% |
| 2026 | 1,266 | 34.7% |
| 2024 | 1,125 | 35.6% |
| 2023 | 737 | 33.6% |
| 2022 | 672 | 33.6% |
| 2027 | 666 | 33.3% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more shopping choice, which can make it easier to compare trims, mileage, and pricing. They also tend to be the easiest years to find in the configuration you want.
What is the BMW 2 Series's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $37,433 | −18.4% |
| 2021 | $21,667 | −10.33% |
| 2024 | $33,812 | −7.96% |
| 2022 | $26,193 | −6.27% |
| 2023 | $33,868 | −6.24% |
| 2020 | $22,663 | −5.61% |
| 2017 | $17,701 | −3.2% |
| 2016 | $16,353 | −2.44% |
| 2015 | $15,415 | −0.76% |
| 2018 | $22,168 | +5.57% |
Most model years in the table are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want to benefit from softer pricing. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer years, while a few older models are changing only slightly. One model year is moving upward, so the pattern is not uniform across the lineup.
The 2015 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2018, 2015, and 2016 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Get a FULLY loaded version. Don't skimp out on the options. iDrive 8.5 is not customizable, the head unit is locked down hard so you can't access any fun things with your obd2 and Bimmercode. That was very disappointing....

BMW 2 Series test drive
overall

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is both affordable and suitably sporty.
The redesigned 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe adds a bit more power and technology. While it may be the least expensive BMW model, it makes only a few sacrifices on the sharp end of performance to get there. For most drivers, this entry-level sedan will be a great appetizer to the rest of the lineup.
Verdict: The all-new 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is a relative bargain among compact luxury cars, leading shoppers to the brand’s pricier and more athletic models. However, if your preferences favor performance over practicality, you might want to consider spending just a bit more for the two-door 2 Series coupe.
