Key things to evaluate:
- Infotainment: 2026 Volvo Car UX with an 11.2-inch touchscreen, Google built-in, Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Gemini, and Google Play.
- Fuel efficiency: The official EPA rating is 26 mpg in combined driving, but on a sunny 88-degree day, the XC60 T5 returned 24.7 mpg on our Southern California fuel-economy loop. On the extended mountainous vehicle evaluation route, we saw 21.7 mpg.
Which Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?
The 2026 Volvo XC60 offers these trims:
- Core: The entry trim in the 2026 XC60 lineup, with the model’s clean Scandinavian design and premium cabin character.
- Plus: A step up in the 2026 XC60 lineup for shoppers who want more equipment while staying close to the core XC60 formula.
- Ultra: The best-value trim, since it keeps the XC60’s sumptuously outfitted cabin and adds the upscale feel that stands out most in this SUV.
- Black Edition: A style-focused trim with distinctive blacked-out details and a more dramatic appearance.
What Volvo XC60 do most buyers choose?
The Volvo XC60 years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 2,611 | 37.8% |
| 2024 | 2,433 | 37.7% |
| 2023 | 2,300 | 37.7% |
| 2026 | 1,337 | 38.1% |
| 2022 | 1,294 | 37.4% |
| 2027 | 953 | 38.1% |
Those higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you the broadest selection and the easiest shopping experience. They also sit close to the newest model years, which helps keep features and pricing attractive.
What is the Volvo XC60's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2014 | $8,396 | −17.98% |
| 2022 | $26,935 | −15.69% |
| 2021 | $23,756 | −11.95% |
| 2017 | $12,341 | −11.34% |
| 2018 | $17,220 | −10.44% |
| 2019 | $19,314 | −10.2% |
| 2020 | $21,663 | −10.16% |
| 2023 | $32,972 | −10.08% |
| 2015 | $9,851 | −9.15% |
| 2024 | $38,158 | −7.33% |
| 2016 | $11,123 | −6.53% |
| 2025 | $42,463 | −1.07% |
Most XC60 model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used because it creates more room for value. The steepest drops are concentrated in older and mid-cycle years, while the newest years are falling more slowly. That pattern suggests recent XC60s are still holding closer to their prior pricing than older examples.
The 2025, 2016, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Volvo XC60 safe?
- 2026: 4/10
- 2023: 10/10
- 2022: 9/10
- 2021: 9/10
- 2018: 10/10
For the safest used buy, the 2018 and 2023 models both post the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Volvo XC60 now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −1.07% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −7.33%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 37.8% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 37.7%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $42,463. The Volvo XC60 offers a calm, upscale cabin with a premium feel that makes it easy to live with every day.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generates 247 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, flowing to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
- Tech: A larger, high-resolution 11.2-inch touchscreen display debuts for 2026, and the XC60 includes Google built-in with Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Gemini, and Google Play.
- Safety: The XC60 has an oncoming collision mitigation braking system, intersection braking assist, and Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assist.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

I have a base model Volvo XC60 from 2011, and its fantastic. No outstanding issues, comfortable seats, the base audio system is punchy but nothing insane. If you find one under 200k miles definitely pick one up!

Great reliable, safe vehicle, we purchased two, one for each of our first time drivers, twin granddaughters. One was recently involved in an horrific accident, and she walked away with only one small scratch. The car however was a total loss. We replaced it with the same model, we believe in it’s safety record…

Why it stands out
The 2024 Volvo XC60 stands out as a premium compact crossover that leans heavily on Volvo’s long-running strengths: safety, clean Scandinavian design, and a well-equipped cabin. It is a five-passenger SUV with standard safety tech and luxurious amenities, and its appeal is rooted as much in its understated style as in its reputation for protection. Some shoppers may find the design dated, but others will see it as classic and timeless.
For 2024, the XC60’s lineup includes fuel-efficient four-cylinder powertrains, and the model also offers a plug-in hybrid. The 2024 model year returns to standard all-wheel drive, while the mid-level B6 powertrain is eliminated. The XC60 Black Edition also joins the lineup, exclusive to the top-end Ultimate trim, with Onyx Black paint, 21-inch gloss black alloy wheels, a crystal gear shift knob by Orrefors, and other black exterior and interior details.
Inside, the XC60 continues to emphasize modern technology and comfort. Standard equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, Thor’s Hammer LED headlights, and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Buyers can also find available features such as heated front seats, Nappa leather seats, a premium sound system, air suspension, Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control and steer assist, massaging seats, blind spot monitoring, and lane keep assist. Its main drawbacks are not hard to spot, either: the XC60 can be pricey, and the rear-seat legroom is tight.
