Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Pilot Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist, along with intersection braking assist and forward-collision warning that can identify large animals, pedestrians, and cyclists.
- Infotainment: Volvo Car UX with an 11.2-inch touchscreen, Google built-in, Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Gemini, Google Play, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The official EPA rating is 26 mpg in combined driving, but on a sunny 88-degree day, the XC60 T5 returned 24.7 mpg on our Southern California fuel-economy loop. On the extended mountainous vehicle evaluation route, we saw 21.7 mpg.

- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $42,358. The Volvo XC60 offers a calm, upscale cabin with a premium Scandinavian character that makes it easy to live with every day.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generates 247 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, and the powertrain features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with an integrated starter/generator and regenerative braking.
- Tech: A larger, high-resolution 11.2-inch touchscreen display debuts for 2026, and Volvo Car UX provides Google built-in with Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Gemini, and Google Play.
- Safety: The latest model adds intersection braking assist and forward-collision warning that identifies large animals, pedestrians, and cyclists.
- Starting price: Prices range from $51,095 to $62,195, including the $1,395 destination charge.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Great reliable, safe vehicle, we purchased two, one for each of our first time drivers, twin granddaughters. One was recently involved in an horrific accident, and she walked away with only one small scratch. The car however was a total loss. We replaced it with the same model, we believe in it’s safety record…

The 2024 Volvo XC60 stands out as a premium compact crossover that leans heavily on safety, technology, and clean Scandinavian design. Volvo’s best-selling vehicle has long been known for its standard safety tech and luxurious amenities, and the XC60’s appeal is rooted in that combination of practicality and polish. For buyers who want a five-passenger SUV that feels upscale without being flashy, the XC60’s straightforward design and strong safety reputation are major draws.
For 2024, the XC60 returns to standard all-wheel drive, and the mid-level B6 powertrain is no longer part of the lineup. The Black Edition also joins the range, exclusive to the top-end Ultimate trim, with Onyx Black paint, 21-inch gloss black alloy wheels, a crystal gear shift knob by Orrefors, and other black exterior and interior details. That gives the XC60 a more distinctive look for shoppers who want something a little more expressive than the standard model.
The XC60’s strengths are reinforced by its equipment and powertrain lineup. Standard features include a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, Thor’s Hammer LED headlights, and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The model also offers a 2.0-liter turbocharged 48V mild-hybrid inline-four, and the plug-in hybrid version remains part of the lineup. On the downside, the XC60 is not the roomiest choice in its class, with tight rear-seat legroom noted among its drawbacks, and some shoppers may also find its acceleration and braking less smooth than they’d like.
