2005 Volkswagen Touareg V8 Review
by Kiki

Most elegant SUV on the market

A VW Touareg is actually the same car as the Porche Cayene. It's a sports car with luxury interior and safety of a SUV. I would say it's a dream car: big but easy to drive. You feel like in a Mini or something very close to the ground, not in a SUV. After driving this car it would be very difficult to pick a different car if I have to.

Avg. Dealer Rating: (4 reviews) "This dealer is the reason people hate the car buying experience. The dealer knew I had to drive 3 hours to see the van. He swore it was in great shape and we had worked out a deal to purchase the van upon my arrival if I liked what I saw when I got there. The van looked good on paper (CarFax and Photos) and the salesman swore it was in great condition and knew I had to drive 3 hours to come buy it. Within 30 seconds of actually seeing the car in real life it was obvious that the car was not in good condition. There were major scratches on the exterior paint not visible in the photos. The door that covers the gas cap wouldn't close properly, the driver side passenger door only slid open 6 inches before it clunked and refused to budge any more. The buttons to open the sliding doors didn't work. The driver side seatbelt wouldn't work. It would not click in place it came off without pushing the button. The interior was very worn and the car stunk like a bunch of sweaty high school boys. The engine sounded a bit tired and worn. Under the hood was filthy, and I saw battery acid build up on the terminals for the battery connectors (I couldn't tell if this acid was from the previous battery or the current battery). Dealers usually clean under the hood and inspect the car to make sure it is in good working condition. This dealer didn't do anything beyond an exterior wash and vacuum the interior. The salesman was embarrassed as the car seemed to crumble before our eyes, he had obviously not looked at the car beyond walking by it on the lot. This should not have been a surprise to him when he knew there was a buyer driving from three hours away. When I had asked the salesman over the phone if the vehicle had been smoked in he hesitated and said I can't guarantee it, but it does not smell like smoke. When I was there I watched about 6 salesmen loitering around a truck for sale, leaning against it smoking. It was very unprofessional. Needless to say I did not make a purchase here."
