The 2020 Tesla Model Y stands out as a compact luxury crossover that was designed to feel familiar to Tesla buyers while adding more space and versatility. It is based on the Tesla Model 3 and shares 70% to 75% of its parts, but it is slightly longer, wider, and notably taller, with coupe-like SUV styling and a rear hatch that gives it extra practicality. That shape helps create lots of space, and the cabin carries the same design theme inside and out. Buyers also get generous cargo room, including under-floor storage in the rear and a front trunk.
What made the 2020 Model Y especially distinctive at launch was how much equipment came standard.
