| 2022 | 3,939 | 36.5% |
| 2020 | 3,286 | 35.4% |

| 2024 | $28,589 | −7.05% |
| 2025 | $30,962 | −6.78% |

| 2016 | $12,552 | −1.74% |
| 2017 | $14,550 | −1.03% |

Should I buy a used Subaru Forester now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −6.78% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −7.05%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 38.1% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 37.9%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $30,962. The Subaru Forester offers a roomy cabin and strong all-weather confidence that make it easy to live with every day.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The Forester Wilderness uses a normally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, and Subaru says its combined fuel economy is 26 mpg.
- Tech: The latest Forester Wilderness pairs a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel with an 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging.
- Safety: The latest Forester adds improved rear seatbelts to enhance occupant safety.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Why it stands out
The 2024 Subaru Forester stands out as a compact SUV that leans hard into practicality, visibility, and all-weather confidence. Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive is standard, and the Forester’s reputation for reliability and value remains a major part of its appeal. It also offers a spacious interior and a large cargo area, which makes it especially attractive to buyers who want an easy-to-live-with family vehicle rather than something flashy.
For 2024, the Forester’s strengths are rooted in its balanced setup: a 2.5-liter boxer engine with 182 hp and 176 lb-ft works with a CVT, while standard EyeSight safety tech adds adaptive cruise control, Pre-Collision Braking, lane departure and sway warning, and Lead Vehicle Start Alert. Higher trims bring more comfort and convenience, including an eight-inch touchscreen on upper versions, a panoramic power moonroof, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and available blind-spot and rear cross-traffic features. The Sport trim adds a more aggressive look with dark trim and orange accents, while the Limited and Touring trims bring more upscale touches such as leather upholstery, a power rear gate, ventilated leather seats, a heated steering wheel, and a Harman Kardon sound system.
There are a few tradeoffs to keep in mind. The CVT can feel sluggish, and the latest generation does not offer a turbocharged engine option. Even so, the 2024 Subaru Forester remains appealing because it combines standard AWD, strong visibility, useful space, and a long-running reputation for durability in a package that is easy to recommend for everyday use.
