| 2022 | 3,939 | 36.5% |
| 2020 | 3,286 | 35.4% |

| 2024 | $28,589 | −7.05% |
| 2025 | $30,962 | −6.78% |

| 2016 | $12,552 | −1.74% |
| 2017 | $14,550 | −1.03% |
Most model years in the table are moving lower year over year, which is good news if you are shopping used. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer years, while older models are changing more slowly. That pattern can make recent Foresters especially attractive if you want newer features without paying new-car pricing.

Should I buy a used Subaru Forester now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −6.78% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −7.05%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 38.1% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 37.9%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $30,962. The Subaru Forester offers a roomy cabin and strong all-weather confidence that make it easy to live with every day.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The Forester Wilderness uses a normally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, and Subaru says its combined fuel economy is 26 mpg.
- Tech: The latest Forester Wilderness pairs a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel with an 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless smartphone charging.
- Safety: The latest Forester adds improved rear seatbelts to enhance occupant safety.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Subaru Forester stands out as a compact SUV built around the qualities many shoppers want most: all-weather capability, passenger space, cargo room, and solid fuel economy. Subaru’s long history with the Forester also matters here, since the model helped establish the crossover formula that became so popular. For buyers, that makes the 2019 Forester appealing as a practical, family-friendly choice with standard all-wheel drive and a reputation for being easy to live with.
It also brings a useful mix of strengths that fit everyday driving. The test-drive data highlights standard advanced safety features and easy-to-use technology, while owners praise its spaciousness, visibility, comfort, and all-wheel-drive capability. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: performance is described as fairly pedestrian, styling is uninspired, and some owners mention the lack of a standard transmission option and difficulties with Android connectivity.
