What a joy to drive this car. The Cayman S is a blast. Accelerates so effortlessly, you are well over the speed limit and still have 2 more gears to go. Nothing but smiles so far.

The Cayman is nice looking from many angles, but not all. I never fails to collect compliments, if you are into that sort of thing. I guess that's got more to do with the Porsche brand, which I find subtracts from the car somewhat. I find the the seats really comfortable and supportive, however, I am fairly slim and I think broader frames would find the seats snug. I love how low you can sit in the car. Visibility is surprisingly good, even with the seat positioned low. Fuel economy is good; about 21 mpg, even with frequent "Italian tune-ups". Maintenance and repair costs are about what you might expect; not cheap. But the car is entirely worth it. The engine is a masterpiece. It sounds great all of the time. It has really effective and linear torque delivery. The throttle response is incredible. And it loves to rev. The steering is brilliant. Hydraulic, so it communicates as it should. The car is incredibly balanced. It will understeer, if you accelarate hard into a turn. However, if you stab it into a turn, it is neutral and you can control the the yaw with the throttle. It flatters the driver. The ride is good, considering that the car is nearly a track weapon. I really have no complaints about the car. It's brilliant!

This is an amazing car, for the right person. Dont mistake this with a comfortable daily driver, its not. Its a purpose built car intended for the track. Its very low and will scrape on most speed bumps and driveways if you arent careful. And to drive it quickly, you will need to really rev out the engine to redline. Those who know what this car is really and truly appreciate it. But its not for everyone. Interior on the cayman is a bit cramped for most, and if you are not slim, dont even think about getting the carbon bucket seats. Great value however, this is a car you can buy and sell 3 years later for a very minimal loss. Watch out for the 3rd gear pop-out issue, but other than that this car is very reliable. I was torn on this car, but eventually decided on a 2018 Carrera T due to the better driving dynamics for daily driving. Great car however and I would have loved the GT4 just as much.

Overview
Based on the same platform as Porsche's popular Boxster roadster, the Porsche Cayman is a mid-engined vehicle, meaning that the engine resides behind the passenger compartment but ahead of the rear axle. But even though they share a platform, the Boxster and the Cayman are completely different vehicles. The obvious difference is that the Boxster is a convertible (or cabriolet for the purists) while the Cayman is a two-door, hard-top coupe. But there are styling and engineering differences as well that make each vehicle distinctive. Styling-wise, the Cayman borrows a number of design cues, including its nose, roofline, and side air intakes, from some of the 911 models. But it presents those elements in an overall fresh design that fits in well with Porsche's lineup of sports cars. In 2006, its first year in production, the Cayman was available in a single S version that was powered by a 3.4-liter, horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine that generated 295 horsepower. In 2007, a base Cayman model was introduced. It was equipped with a 2.7-liter six-cylinder engine that produced 245 horsepower. As far as exterior styling and standard features were concerned, the base Cayman and the Cayman S were very similar. But the base model, with its less powerful engine, lacked some of the mechanical upgrades of its more powerful sibling, resulting in a lighter vehicle.
