How much does the Nissan LEAF cost in today's market?
Used Nissan LEAF prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $18,277 | $15,992 – $21,191 |
| 2024 | $20,200 | $16,768 – $21,367 |
| 2023 | $17,397 | $15,099 – $18,004 |
| 2022 | $15,812 | $13,329 – $15,812 |
| 2018 | $11,061 | $9,311 – $11,079 |
| 2015 | $6,143 | $5,199 – $6,171 |
The Nissan LEAF's current nationwide average price is $17,526, and its year-round low is $12,600.08. That gives you a sense of where used pricing can dip when inventory is most favorable. These figures reflect this model only, and they help show how much prices can vary by year and condition.
Recently, prices have eased on the 2025 models, while other recent model years have held firm or risen.
Is the Nissan LEAF a good car?
Yes — the Nissan LEAF has built its reputation on affordability, comfort, and easy everyday driving, and the all-generations owner rating is 4.39/5 across every model year in the data.
The recurring praise centers on its smooth driving character, quiet cabin, and practical interior space. Owners also consistently value its low running costs and city-friendly nature, which make it a sensible choice for daily commuting.
Expert reviews rate the 2026 and 2019 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs show up in performance and rear-seat space on newer models, while older versions bring limited range and older charging hardware into the picture.
43.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Nissan LEAF models reliable?
Owners consistently describe the Nissan LEAF as a practical, comfortable EV with low running costs and easy day-to-day use. Expert feedback also points to its value-focused character and smooth driving experience, especially for commuting.
- Owners rate the Nissan LEAF between 3.33 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most tied to battery condition and how the car was charged over time, so a careful battery check matters most on older examples.
What should I look for when buying a used Nissan LEAF?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 96.1% |
| 2025 | 96.9% |
| 2024 | 96% |
| 2023 | 95.6% |
| 2022 | 91.7% |
| 2021 | 90.7% |
| 2020 | 86.9% |
| 2019 | 84.8% |
| 2018 | 82.4% |
| 2017 | 79.8% |
| 2016 | 72.2% |
| 2015 | 70.8% |
| 2014 | 71.8% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2017 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: ProPilot Assist highway-driving system, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, driver monitoring, and a 360-degree camera system.
- Infotainment: standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with Google built-in apps on SV+ and Platinum+ models.
- Range & charging: 303 miles, 75-kWh pack, 150 kilowatts of DC fast-charging power, and a 10%-80% charge takes 35 minutes.
- Battery health: Check battery state-of-health carefully, review how the car was typically charged at home versus on DC fast chargers, and confirm the remaining battery warranty before you buy.
Which Nissan LEAF trim should I buy?
The 2026 Nissan LEAF offers these trims:
- Leaf S: Best if you want the entry point into the redesigned LEAF, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 174 horsepower, and the standard driver-assistance suite.
- Leaf S+: The best-value trim for range, with the larger 75-kWh battery, 303 miles of range, and the same core tech and safety equipment as the lower trim.
- Leaf SV+: Adds the 14.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Google built-in apps, rear USB-C ports, a wireless device charger, and more upscale cabin touches.
- Leaf Platinum+: The top trim adds the 10-speaker Bose Personal Plus audio system, TailorFit seating, V2L power-offboarding capability, and the most premium equipment in the lineup.
What Nissan LEAF do most buyers choose?
The Nissan LEAF years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 773 | 49.9% |
| 2025 | 667 | 51.3% |
| 2023 | 436 | 45.4% |
| 2026 | 414 | 51% |
| 2022 | 217 | 38.7% |
| 2021 | 118 | 39.8% |
Those higher-volume years tend to draw more shoppers because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right price and condition. They also sit close enough to the newest generation to keep the LEAF’s practical EV appeal front and center.
What is the Nissan LEAF's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $18,277 | −5.75% |
| 2022 | $15,812 | +2.49% |
| 2023 | $17,397 | +3.3% |
| 2024 | $20,200 | +6.37% |
| 2015 | $6,143 | +7.29% |
| 2018 | $11,061 | +8.27% |
The table shows a mixed pattern, with one recent year moving down while several others are rising. That means some used LEAFs are becoming more attractive to buyers, while others are still commanding stronger prices.
The 2018, 2015, and 2024 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.
Is the Nissan LEAF safe?
- 2026: 7/10
- 2020: 9/10
- 2019: 7/10
- 2016: 7/10
Nissan’s ProPilot Assist highway-driving system is standard, combining automated lane-centering with adaptive cruise control.
For the safest used buy, the 2020 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Nissan LEAF now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −5.75% versus a year ago.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 51.3% good and great deals.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $20,200. The Nissan LEAF offers a practical, comfortable cabin and an easygoing driving character that make it a strong everyday commuter.
Consider waiting if:
- Range & charging: The latest LEAF offers 303 miles, a 75-kWh pack, and 150 kilowatts of DC fast-charging power.
- Tech: The latest LEAF features standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google built-in apps on SV+ and Platinum+ models.
- Safety: The latest LEAF adds a standard ProPilot Assist highway-driving system, along with a 360-degree camera system and driver monitoring.
- Starting price: The Leaf S+ starts at $31,485.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2027 inventory to mature.

Customers say
Overall, drivers of the Nissan LEAF across all model years appreciate its affordability, smooth driving experience, and comfort, especially for city commuting. Many praise its low maintenance costs and decent interior space, making it a practical choice for local driving. The leaf is loaded with the features that matter, it is fun to drive and handles well , and will efficiently get me from point a to point b. It handles well on snow and ice, low center of gravity, the heated seats and steering wheel are perfect for Colorado winters and mountain driving.

I love this Leaf with a 212-mile range as an around-town car. With a CHAdeMO fast charger, that is being phased out, it is difficult to do a long road trip. However, I do not need to do long trips, so it works for me.

I've only had the car a couple of days, but I'm pretty happy with the purchase over all. I wish I had a few more amenities that came with the SL like: heated seats, 360° cameras, but I can do without it. The ePedal, ECO mode, charger timer and seamless use of free charging where I work are amazing! I do have to take the car to the dealer to correct the sound of the reverse alert, but overall very excited and happy with my choice.

I love the car, for the price. It has limited power (though, still EV snappy) and very limited range (50-somthing miles), but as an in-town car, it cant be beat. Low price, EV, so no oil changes, no gas stations, almost no maintenance.

Why it stands out
The 2024 Nissan LEAF stands out as one of the most established names in mainstream electric driving, and its appeal is rooted in practicality rather than flash. In its second-generation form, it pairs a more powerful drivetrain with a larger battery that can deliver up to 150 miles of range, while Nissan’s e-Pedal technology lets drivers lean heavily on regenerative braking for a one-pedal driving style. The car also wears sharper bodywork than the original Leaf, giving it a more modern look without abandoning the simple hatchback format that helped make the model recognizable.
For buyers, the 2024 Nissan LEAF’s strengths are value, comfort, and everyday usability. The model is described as an excellent value for money, comfortable, and quiet inside, which fits its role as an easygoing commuter EV. It also offers useful technology such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Nissan Safety Shield 360 and vehicle-to-home capability through NissanConnect software. That said, its limitations are part of the story too: the Leaf is still noted for pedestrian performance, and older Leaf models are associated with limited range and older charging tech.
