How much does the Nissan LEAF cost in today's market?
Used Nissan LEAF prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $17,869 | $15,994 – $21,190 |
| 2024 | $20,041 | $16,725 – $21,361 |
| 2023 | $17,256 | $15,097 – $18,002 |
| 2022 | $15,839 | $13,329 – $15,843 |
| 2018 | $10,966 | $9,308 – $11,034 |
| 2015 | $6,051 | $5,195 – $6,173 |
The Nissan LEAF's current nationwide average price is $16,737, and over the past year that average reached a low of $12,595. Recently, prices have eased on the 2025 models, while other recent model years have held firm or risen.
Is the Nissan LEAF a good car?
Yes — the Nissan LEAF is a strong used-car pick if you want an affordable EV with a comfortable, quiet character and low running costs. The all-generations owner rating is 4.39/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise its affordability, smooth driving experience, and comfort, especially for city commuting. They also tend to value its low maintenance costs and usable interior space, which make it a practical everyday EV. Expert reviews across the lineup reinforce that practical, value-focused identity.
Expert reviews rate the 2026 and 2019 models among the highest across all years.
The main tradeoffs that come up most often are limited range on older versions, charging limitations on road trips, and some concerns about battery longevity over time.
41.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Nissan LEAF models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently describe the Nissan LEAF as a practical, comfortable EV with low running costs and easy everyday drivability. Across the lineup, the strongest feedback centers on its smooth ride, quiet cabin, and value-focused ownership experience.
- Owners rate the Nissan LEAF between 3.33 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most closely tied to battery condition and how the car was charged and driven over time, so a careful battery check matters most on older examples.
What should I look for when buying a used Nissan LEAF?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 95.4% |
| 2025 | 96% |
| 2024 | 95.1% |
| 2023 | 94.2% |
| 2022 | 90.1% |
| 2021 | 89.9% |
| 2020 | 84% |
| 2019 | 80% |
| 2018 | 73.6% |
| 2017 | 75.9% |
| 2016 | 69.5% |
| 2015 | 71.3% |
| 2014 | 69.2% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2017 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: ProPilot Assist highway-driving system with automated lane-centering and adaptive cruise control
- Infotainment: standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Range & charging: 303 miles, 75-kWh pack, 150 kilowatts of DC fast-charging power, and a 10%-80% charge takes 35 minutes
- Battery health: Check battery state-of-health, review whether the car was charged mostly at home or relied heavily on DC fast charging, and confirm the remaining battery warranty coverage before you buy.
Which Nissan LEAF trim should I buy?
The 2026 Nissan LEAF offers these trims:
- Leaf S: The entry point brings the 174-horsepower motor, 52-kWh battery pack, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the core driver-assistance suite. It suits you if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned LEAF.
- Leaf S+: This is the best-value trim because it adds the 75-kWh battery pack and the 303-mile range figure, while keeping the same basic equipment set. It is the trim to target if range matters most.
- SV+: This trim adds the 14.3-inch display setup, Google built-in apps, rear USB-C ports, a wireless device charger, and the six-speaker audio system. It suits you if you want a richer tech experience.
- Platinum+: The top trim adds the 10-speaker Bose Personal Plus audio system with front headrest speakers, TailorFit seating surfaces, 19-inch alloy wheels, and V2L power-offboarding capability. It is the pick if you want the most upscale LEAF experience.
What Nissan LEAF do most buyers choose?
The Nissan LEAF years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2026.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 829 | 44.3% |
| 2025 | 708 | 45.3% |
| 2026 | 461 | 45.6% |
| 2023 | 445 | 41.6% |
| 2022 | 232 | 37.5% |
| 2021 | 119 | 41.2% |
Higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right price, mileage, and equipment mix. They also usually reflect the model years shoppers are cross-shopping most actively.
What is the Nissan LEAF's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $17,869 | −6.67% |
| 2022 | $15,839 | +2.26% |
| 2023 | $17,256 | +3.42% |
| 2015 | $6,051 | +5.42% |
| 2024 | $20,041 | +6.63% |
| 2018 | $10,966 | +6.88% |
The price movement is mixed, but the recent pattern leans upward for several model years. That means some LEAFs are still holding value well, while others have softened enough to create better opportunities for used buyers. The spread also shows that newer examples can move differently from older ones depending on demand and equipment.
The 2018, 2024, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.
Is the Nissan LEAF safe?
- 2026: 7/10
- 2020: 9/10
- 2019: 7/10
- 2016: 7/10
Nissan’s ProPilot Assist highway-driving system is standard on the 2026 model, combining automated lane-centering with adaptive cruise control.
For the safest used buy, the 2020 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Nissan LEAF now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −6.67% versus a year ago.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 45.3% good and great deals.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $20,041. The Nissan LEAF offers a quiet, comfortable, value-focused driving experience that makes it easy to live with every day.
Consider waiting if:
- Range & charging: The latest Leaf offers 303 miles, a 75-kWh pack, and 150 kilowatts of DC fast-charging power, with a 10%-80% charge taking 35 minutes.
- Tech: The latest Leaf features standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Google built-in apps on SV+ and Platinum+ models.
- Safety: The latest Leaf adds a standard ProPilot Assist highway-driving system with automated lane-centering and adaptive cruise control.
- Starting price: The Leaf S+ starts at $31,485.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

The leaf is loaded with the features that matter, it is fun to drive and handles well , and will efficiently get me from point a to point b. It handles well on snow and ice, low center of gravity, the heated seats and steering wheel are perfect for Colorado winters and mountain driving.

I love this Leaf with a 212-mile range as an around-town car. With a CHAdeMO fast charger, that is being phased out, it is difficult to do a long road trip. However, I do not need to do long trips, so it works for me.

I've only had the car a couple of days, but I'm pretty happy with the purchase over all. I wish I had a few more amenities that came with the SL like: heated seats, 360° cameras, but I can do without it. The ePedal, ECO mode, charger timer and seamless use of free charging where I work are amazing! I do have to take the car to the dealer to correct the sound of the reverse alert, but overall very excited and happy with my choice.

I love the car, for the price. It has limited power (though, still EV snappy) and very limited range (50-somthing miles), but as an in-town car, it cant be beat. Low price, EV, so no oil changes, no gas stations, almost no maintenance.

Why it stands out
The 2024 Nissan LEAF stands out as one of the most established names in the mainstream electric-car market, and its appeal has long centered on value, comfort, and a quiet cabin. By this point in its second generation, it had a more modern shape than the original car and a stronger electric drivetrain than the early LEAF models, while still remaining a relatively straightforward EV for everyday use. It also offered vehicle-to-home technology through NissanConnect, letting the battery store surplus power during the day and help power a home in the evening.
For buyers considering a used electric car, the 2024 Nissan LEAF’s biggest draw is that it combines usable range with familiar EV features at a reasonable price point. The second-generation LEAF Plus models are described as the best choice for a reasonably priced daily driver for owners who can charge at home, and the car’s standard safety equipment includes Nissan Safety Shield 360, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Its limitations are also clear: the LEAF still uses older charging tech in its first two generations, and the battery pack is air-cooled, which means range can decline as it ages.
