How much does the Nissan LEAF cost in today's market?
Used Nissan LEAF prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $18,959 | $16,003 – $21,215 |
| 2024 | $20,321 | $16,766 – $21,394 |
| 2023 | $17,572 | $15,128 – $18,109 |
| 2022 | $15,761 | $13,331 – $15,792 |
| 2019 | $12,285 | $10,768 – $12,841 |
| 2018 | $11,017 | $9,311 – $11,030 |
| 2015 | $6,014 | $5,202 – $6,179 |
The Nissan LEAF's current nationwide average price is $17,337, and its year-round low is $12,459.04. That puts the model's pricing in a fairly accessible range for used EV shoppers, with newer examples commanding a clear premium over older ones. Recently, prices have eased on the 2025 models, while other recent model years have held firm or risen.
Is the Nissan LEAF a good car?
Yes — the Nissan LEAF is a strong used-car choice if you want an affordable, easygoing EV for everyday driving. The all-generations owner rating is 4.39/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise its affordability, smooth driving experience, and comfort, especially for city commuting. They also tend to value its low maintenance costs and usable interior space, which make it a practical fit for local driving. Expert and owner feedback also repeatedly points to its quiet cabin and value-focused character.
Expert reviews rate the 2026 and 2019 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs that show up in recent expert reviews are modest performance, a cramped back seat, and charging or range limitations on longer trips. Those are the kinds of compromises you weigh against the LEAF's low running costs and everyday usability.
39.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Nissan LEAF models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently describe the Nissan LEAF as a practical, comfortable EV with low running costs and easy daily use. Across the model years, the strongest themes are smooth driving, city-friendly manners, and value-oriented ownership.
- Owners rate the Nissan LEAF between 3.33 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most important on older examples, where battery condition and range retention deserve close attention.
What should I look for when buying a used Nissan LEAF?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is excellent at 91% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 95.6% |
| 2025 | 96.4% |
| 2024 | 95.5% |
| 2023 | 95.1% |
| 2022 | 90.1% |
| 2021 | 88.8% |
| 2020 | 81.3% |
| 2019 | 81.8% |
| 2018 | 77.6% |
| 2017 | 79.3% |
| 2016 | 75% |
| 2015 | 73.9% |
| 2014 | 75.7% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2014 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: ProPilot Assist highway-driving system with automated lane-centering and adaptive cruise control.
- Infotainment: standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Which Nissan LEAF trim should I buy?
The 2026 Nissan LEAF offers...
- Leaf S: This is the entry point, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 174 horsepower, and a 52-kWh battery pack. It suits you if you want the LEAF's core value proposition at the lowest price.
- Leaf S+: This is the best-value trim, adding the larger 75-kWh battery and 214 horsepower for stronger range and more capability while staying focused on value.
- SV+: This trim adds a 14.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Google built-in apps, rear USB-C ports, a wireless device charger, and TailorFit front-seat material, making it a smart pick if you want more tech and comfort.
- Platinum+: This top trim adds the 14.3-inch display setup, Google built-in apps, a 10-speaker Bose Personal Plus audio system, TailorFit seating on both rows, and vehicle-to-load power-offboarding capability.
What Nissan LEAF do most buyers choose?
The Nissan LEAF years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 718 | 44.8% |
| 2025 | 614 | 45.9% |
| 2023 | 432 | 44.2% |
| 2026 | 360 | 42.5% |
| 2022 | 202 | 34.7% |
| 2014 | 103 | 22.3% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more choices on price, mileage, and condition, which makes it easier to find a LEAF that fits your budget and feature priorities. They also tend to be the years shoppers compare most often because inventory is broad enough to support real selection.
What is the Nissan LEAF's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $18,959 | −6.26% |
| 2019 | $12,285 | −4.38% |
| 2023 | $17,572 | +0.89% |
| 2022 | $15,761 | +2.1% |
| 2015 | $6,014 | +3.84% |
| 2018 | $11,017 | +6.69% |
| 2024 | $20,321 | +7.05% |
The pattern is mixed, with some recent years moving down and others moving up. That gives used buyers a few opportunities to find softer pricing, while also showing that certain model years are still commanding stronger values. The spread suggests you should compare year, mileage, and equipment carefully rather than assuming newer always means cheaper.
The 2023 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2024, 2018, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.
Is the Nissan LEAF safe?
- 2026: 7/10
- 2020: 9/10
- 2019: 7/10
- 2016: 7/10
Nissan's ProPilot Assist highway-driving system is also standard, combining automated lane-centering with adaptive cruise control.
For the safest used buy, the 2020 model posts the highest confirmed score of 9/10.
Should I buy a used Nissan LEAF now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −6.26% versus a year ago, and the 2019 model is at −4.38%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 45.9% good and great deals.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $20,321. The Nissan LEAF offers a quiet, comfortable cabin and an easygoing driving character that make it especially appealing for daily commuting.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The latest Leaf uses a single-motor front-wheel drive setup with 174 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque on base models, while other trims are rated at 214 hp and 261 lb-ft with a 75-kWh pack.
- Tech: The latest Leaf adds a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster on S and S+ models, 14.3-inch versions on SV+ and Platinum+ models, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google built-in apps, and a wireless device charger.
- Safety: The latest model adds standard ProPilot Assist with automated lane-centering and adaptive cruise control, plus a 360-degree camera system with an extra-wide view and a simulated hood view.
- Starting price: The Leaf S+ starts at $31,485.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2027 inventory to mature.

The leaf is loaded with the features that matter, it is fun to drive and handles well , and will efficiently get me from point a to point b. It handles well on snow and ice, low center of gravity, the heated seats and steering wheel are perfect for Colorado winters and mountain driving.

I love this Leaf with a 212-mile range as an around-town car. With a CHAdeMO fast charger, that is being phased out, it is difficult to do a long road trip. However, I do not need to do long trips, so it works for me.

I've only had the car a couple of days, but I'm pretty happy with the purchase over all. I wish I had a few more amenities that came with the SL like: heated seats, 360° cameras, but I can do without it. The ePedal, ECO mode, charger timer and seamless use of free charging where I work are amazing! I do have to take the car to the dealer to correct the sound of the reverse alert, but overall very excited and happy with my choice.

I love the car, for the price. It has limited power (though, still EV snappy) and very limited range (50-somthing miles), but as an in-town car, it cant be beat. Low price, EV, so no oil changes, no gas stations, almost no maintenance.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Nissan LEAF stands out as a practical, value-focused electric hatchback with a modernized look and a stronger drivetrain than the original car that made the nameplate famous. For this generation, Nissan gave the LEAF a larger battery that could deliver up to 150 miles of range and a more powerful drivetrain rated at 147 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. It also brought in e-Pedal technology, which lets drivers lean heavily on regenerative braking for a one-pedal driving style, and the car’s 6.6-kW onboard charger can replenish the battery in about eight hours on a Level 2 charger.
The 2023 model also benefits from a sharper exterior design and a useful set of standard and available features. Forward collision warning and mitigation with automatic braking was standard, while available safety equipment included intelligent lane intervention, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a blind-spot monitor, and rear cross traffic alert. Buyers could also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the model’s vehicle-to-home capability through NissanConnect adds an uncommon layer of everyday usefulness by letting the battery help power a home during an outage. Its main limitation is still range: even with the improvements, the 2023 Nissan LEAF remains best suited to drivers whose daily needs fit within its battery capacity.
