How much does the Nissan Altima cost in today's market?

Used Nissan Altima prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:

The Nissan Altima's current nationwide average price is $16,876, and its lowest point over the past year was $16,875. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the Nissan Altima a good car?

Yes — the Nissan Altima is a strong used-car pick if you want comfort, value, and everyday usability. The all-generations owner rating is 4.5/5 across every model year in the data.

Owners consistently praise the Altima for its comfortable ride, fuel economy, and easy-to-live-with cabin. Across the model years, you also see recurring praise for its smooth driving character, useful technology, and strong value for the money.

Expert reviews rate the 2016 and 2015 models among the highest across all years.

The main trade-offs in recent expert reviews center on pedestrian performance, interior materials that feel cheap, and technology that can feel dated in some trims. Those are the kinds of compromises you should expect if you want a sedan that emphasizes comfort and value over excitement.

34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Are Nissan Altima models reliable?

Owners and experts consistently point to the Altima’s comfort, fuel economy, and easy daily driving manners as its biggest strengths. The model also earns praise for its smooth ride and practical, value-focused character.

• Owners rate the Nissan Altima between 3.8 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is worth weighing carefully, especially on older examples where owner feedback and model-year history show more mixed experiences.

What should I look for when buying a used Nissan Altima?

Across all model years, at 71% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360
• Infotainment: 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
• Fuel efficiency: The Altima AWD should get 28 mpg in combined driving, and our test car averaged 28.3 mpg on our mountainous Southern California testing loop. Without it, an Altima should get 31-32 mpg.

Which Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2025 Nissan Altima offers these trims:

• S: The entry trim starts the lineup with the standard engine and the core Altima formula.
• SV: A strong everyday choice that builds on the lineup with added comfort and convenience.
• SV Special Edition: This is the best-value trim, pairing black wheels and a rear spoiler with comfort and technology upgrades.
• SR: Adds 19-inch wheels, sport suspension, brake-induced torque vectoring, and sport-bolstered front seats for a more athletic feel.
• SL: Brings the most upscale equipment in the lineup, including the best safety features available for the Altima and the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

What Nissan Altima do most buyers choose?

The Nissan Altima years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

These higher-volume model years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right price, mileage, and equipment mix. They also tend to be the years shoppers focus on when they want a newer Altima without moving all the way to the newest model year.

What is the Nissan Altima's resale value?

Most Altima model years are down year over year, and several recent ones show double-digit declines. That pattern can work in your favor if you’re shopping used, since it creates more room for value across much of the lineup. The smallest changes are concentrated in the newer and better-retained model years, which suggests those versions have been holding closer to their prior pricing.

The 2023, 2018, and 2016 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Nissan Altima now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −11.07% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −6.87%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 38.1% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 37.7%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $19,779. The Nissan Altima offers a comfortable ride, roomy everyday usability, and a value-focused character that makes it easy to live with.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Nissan equips every 2025 Altima with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. With front-wheel drive (FWD), it generates 188 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 180 pound-feet of torque at 3,600 rpm. When you choose the optional AWD system, output drops to 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is standard as well.
• Tech: The standard setup has an 8-inch touchscreen, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a six-speaker stereo. The Altima SV Special Edition and SL get a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with modern graphics and added features.
• Safety: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Altima. It equips the car with: forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic rear braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Starting price: Prices across the lineup range from $27,000 to $33,330, not including a destination charge of $1,140.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
