How much does the Mercedes-Benz G-Class cost in today's market?

Used Mercedes-Benz G-Class prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class's current nationwide average price is $147,422, and its lowest point over the past year was $140,398. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class a good car?

Yes — the Mercedes-Benz G-Class earns strong praise from owners for its iconic design, luxurious feel, and serious capability. The all-generations owner rating is 4.71/5 across every model year in the data.

Owners consistently highlight the G-Class's rugged build quality, distinctive style, and blend of luxury with functionality. Expert reviews also reinforce its appeal as a vehicle with real presence and off-road ability. The main trade-offs across recent years are steep pricing, limited practicality, and high ownership costs.

Expert reviews rate the 2021 and 2025 models among the highest across all years.

The most common drawbacks across recent expert reviews are limited cargo space, uncomfortable seats, and poor value for money.

32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Are Mercedes-Benz G-Class models reliable?

Owners and experts consistently praise the G-Class for its rugged build quality, distinctive character, and strong overall appeal. Across the model years in the data, it earns especially positive feedback for combining luxury with serious capability.

• Owners rate the Mercedes-Benz G-Class between 4.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is tied more to expensive upkeep and repair exposure than to the vehicle's core appeal.

What should I look for when buying a used Mercedes-Benz G-Class?

Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 84.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2019 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Infotainment: MBUX infotainment system with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a pair of 12.3-inch screens.
• Fuel efficiency: The base G 550 trades last year’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine for a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six rated at 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, while the AMG G 63 keeps its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which produces 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. Both models add mild-hybrid system providing 20 hp and 148 lb-ft at lower speeds, with everything connected to nine-speed automatic transmissions and permanent four-wheel drive (4WD) with locking front, center, and rear differentials.

Which Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class offers these trims:

• G 550: The base model brings the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, 19-inch wheels, MBUX with dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and standard driver-assistance features; it suits you if you want the most accessible entry into the lineup and the best-value trim.
• AMG G 63: This performance model adds the 577-hp twin-turbo V8, AMG Active Ride Control suspension, 20-inch wheels, and a sportier steering wheel with buttons and switches for the various settings; it suits you if you want the most powerful and most performance-focused G-Class.
• G 580 with EQ Technology: This all-electric model adds four individually controlled permanent-magnet electric motors, a combined 579 horsepower and 859 lb-ft of torque, and the “G Turn,” making it the choice if you want the newest powertrain and the most advanced electric capability.

What Mercedes-Benz G-Class do most buyers choose?

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class years with the most listings are 2022, 2024, and 2021.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare and a wider spread of prices and deal quality. They also sit in the sweet spot where newer features and broader availability overlap.

What is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?

Most model years are down year over year, which is good news if you're shopping used because it points to softer pricing across much of the lineup. A couple of older years are holding closer to flat or moving up, showing that some G-Class models continue to command strong demand. The overall pattern still favors buyers looking for recent-year value.

The 2018 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.

The 2014, 2018, and 2021 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class safe?

• 2025: 7/10
• 2021: 8/10
• 2020: 7/10
• 2019: 6/10

The 2025 G-Class includes standard driver-assistance features such as forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, park assist, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, and traffic sign recognition.

For the safest used buy, the 2021 model posts the highest confirmed score of 8/10.

Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz G-Class now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −2.98% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −4.65%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 35% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 34.7%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2022 model has the most listings at a current average price of $159,696. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class offers a distinctive boxy design, serious off-road credibility, and a luxury presence that stands out in any setting.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The base G 550 trades last year’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine for a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six rated at 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, while the AMG G 63 keeps its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which produces 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.
• Tech: It features the same Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system as other vehicles wearing the three-pointed star, with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a pair of 12.3-inch screens.
• Safety: Three new features were also added for the 2025 model year. A route-based speed adaptation function for the adaptive cruise control automatically lowers the speed when approaching curves, junctions, tolls, or exits, and then automatically re-accelerates. Automated lane centering has been added as well, along with an emergency-stop feature that will automatically brake the G-Class to a standstill in its lane if the driver becomes incapacitated.
• Starting price: The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G 550 and AMG G 63 are scheduled to reach U.S. dealerships in the second half of 2024, with pricing information to be revealed closer to that time.

If you're buying used today, the 2022 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
