- Safety package: 2025 models include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, park assist, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, and traffic sign recognition.
- Infotainment: 2025 models feature the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a pair of 12.3-inch screens.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2025 G-Class lineup consists of gasoline G 550 and AMG G 63 models, and a first-ever all-electric G 580 with EQ Technology variant.
Which Mercedes-Benz G-Class trim should I buy?
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class offers these trims:
- G 550: The base gasoline model adds a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, a mild-hybrid system, a nine-speed automatic transmission, permanent four-wheel drive with locking front, center, and rear differentials, and standard 19-inch wheels; it suits you if you want the core G-Class experience and the best-value trim.
- AMG G 63: This performance trim adds a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque, AMG Active Ride Control suspension, standard 20-inch wheels, and a sportier steering wheel with buttons and switches for the various settings; it suits you if you want the most powerful gasoline G-Class.
- G 580 with EQ Technology: This all-electric variant adds a fully electric powertrain and is the newest distinct model in the lineup.
What Mercedes-Benz G-Class do most buyers choose?
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class years with the most listings are 2024, 2022, and 2025.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 835 | 31.6% |
| 2022 | 816 | 31.1% |
| 2025 | 756 | 31.5% |
| 2023 | 753 | 30.4% |
| 2021 | 739 | 32.7% |
| 2020 | 650 | 35.1% |
The highest-volume years tend to draw the most shoppers because they offer the broadest selection and the easiest path to comparing condition, mileage, and pricing. They also often sit close to the sweet spot between newer features and used-car savings.
What is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2019 | $104,170 | −9.0% |
| 2022 | $158,976 | −7.04% |
| 2016 | $61,609 | −6.92% |
| 2025 | $191,503 | −6.4% |
| 2020 | $119,584 | −4.44% |
| 2024 | $177,359 | −4.21% |
| 2015 | $54,157 | −3.35% |
| 2023 | $167,816 | −2.94% |
| 2021 | $135,862 | −2.13% |
| 2017 | $83,573 | −1.33% |
| 2018 | $86,376 | +0.87% |
| 2014 | $52,263 | +2.66% |
Most model years in the table are down year over year, which gives used buyers more room to shop than they had a year ago. A few years are holding close to flat or ticking up, so the G-Class still shows strong demand in parts of the lineup. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer and higher-priced years, which can create especially attractive entry points for shoppers.
The 2018 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2014, 2018, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

The 2025 G-Class includes standard driver-assistance features such as forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, park assist, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, and traffic sign recognition.
For the safest used buy, the 2021 model posts the highest confirmed score of 8/10.
Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz G-Class now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −6.4% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −4.21%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 31.5% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 31.6%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $177,359. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class offers a distinctive boxy design and a cabin that feels unmistakably special.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The 2025 G-Class lineup consists of gasoline G 550 and AMG G 63 models, and a first-ever all-electric G 580 with EQ Technology variant; the G 550 uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six rated at 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, while the AMG G 63 keeps its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which produces 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.
- Tech: The 2025 G-Class features the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system with standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a pair of 12.3-inch screens.
- Safety: Three new features were also added for the 2025 model year: route-based speed adaptation for adaptive cruise control, automated lane centering, and an emergency-stop feature.
- Starting price: For reference, the 2024 G 550 and G 63 priced around $143,000 and $183,000, respectively.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

top of the line suv with power, sophistication and smart features. the dynamic of creating a vehicle that is strong, sturdy and can be utilized for a casual drive as well as offroading is attractive to me. the vehicle is a higher level suv and the only downfall i see is the price but these vehicles will run many miles if properly serviced .

Why it stands out
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class stands out immediately for its unmistakable blocky, utilitarian shape, a design that has remained true to its roots even as the SUV has evolved into a luxury vehicle. It is a five-passenger, body-on-frame SUV with standard all-wheel drive, and its rugged character gives it a presence that feels unlike almost anything else on the road. Mercedes-Benz also pairs that old-school look with a sophisticated powertrain, mechanicals, and technology, which helps the G-Class feel both distinctive and modern.
That combination makes the 2021 Mercedes-Benz G-Class appealing to buyers who want serious capability wrapped in a luxury package. Its powerful engine is a clear strength, and its reputation for off-road and overlanding ability adds to its appeal. At the same time, it is not the most practical choice for everyone: the G-Class is noted for poor handling, poor fuel economy, and limited cargo space, and its price starts at $131,750. Owners also tend to praise its performance, visibility, and design, while some point out that rear seating space is limited.
