Is the Mercedes-Benz CLA a good car?
Yes — the Mercedes-Benz CLA has broad appeal if you want style, refinement, and a premium-feeling compact luxury car. The all-generations owner rating is 4.6/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the CLA for its stylish design, smooth driving experience, and upscale feel. Many also value its modern features and overall value, especially if you want a Mercedes-Benz that feels distinctive without moving into a larger class.
Expert reviews rate the 2026 and 2021 models among the highest across all years.
The main tradeoffs are recurring themes too: some years draw criticism for power delivery, ride comfort, and tight rear seating or modest cargo space. That means the CLA works best if you prioritize image, comfort, and features over maximum practicality.
33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Mercedes-Benz CLA models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently point to the CLA’s premium feel, stylish design, and smooth driving character. Across the model years, the car also earns praise for modern features and a polished cabin experience.
- Owners rate the Mercedes-Benz CLA between 4 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by choosing a well-kept example with a clean history and strong maintenance records.

Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 75.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 93% |

Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: class-exclusive center airbag, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring with exit assist, emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition
- Infotainment: 10.25-inch driver display and 14-inch center display with the fourth generation of Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system, plus standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Which Mercedes-Benz CLA trim should I buy?
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA offers these trims:
- CLA 250+: the rear-wheel-drive version with 268 hp, an 85-kWh battery, and a comfortable, confident ride; a strong choice if you want the best-value entry point.
- CLA 350 4Matic: the all-wheel-drive version with 349 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, plus quicker acceleration for buyers who want more performance.
What Mercedes-Benz CLA do most buyers choose?
The Mercedes-Benz CLA years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2026.
Those higher-volume years tend to be the easiest to shop because you get more inventory to compare, which can improve your odds of finding the right color, mileage, and condition. They also tend to be the most popular used picks because newer model years usually combine broader availability with more recent features.

Customers say
The Mercedes-Benz CLA has earned a positive reputation among owners for its stylish design, smooth driving experience, and luxurious feel. Many drivers appreciate the car for its modern features and overall value, especially appealing to young professionals. However, common critiques include a perceived lack of power and some discomfort related to the ride quality. The limited cargo space and tight rear passenger seating also tend to be points of contention.

The CLA comes well-equipped with a sleek infotainment system, a user-friendly COMAND interface, and available advanced safety features like blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control. The turbocharged engine provides peppy performance, and the cabin boasts upscale materials—though some hard plastics remind you it’s an entry-level model.

Sharp looking car. decent gas mileage and lots of power. The DCT shifts very smoothly. The suspension when in sport mode can be a bit hard. The CLA Sport 4Matic is the one you want. with the 18" AMG rims looks amazing

CarGurus recommends the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA
Summary
With 942 currently listed for sale and an average price of $33,409, 40.1% of 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
87.8% of 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA stands out as a compact luxury sedan that blends style, technology, and everyday usability in a way that feels distinctly Mercedes. It is appealing to buyers who want a premium cabin and a polished driving experience without moving up to a larger, more expensive model. The CLA’s main draw is its upscale character: it delivers the kind of design and tech-forward feel many shoppers expect from the brand, while still being sized for easier daily use.
What makes the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLA especially distinctive is the balance it strikes between sophistication and practicality. It offers the kind of modern features and refined presentation that help it feel more special than a typical small sedan, and that makes it attractive to buyers who value image as much as comfort. At the same time, its compact footprint can make it easier to live with in tight spaces than larger luxury cars.
As with many cars in this class, the CLA’s strengths come with some tradeoffs. Buyers drawn to its sleek styling and premium ambiance may need to accept that it is more focused on image and refinement than on maximum space or outright utility. Even so, for shoppers who want a stylish entry into Mercedes-Benz ownership, the 2024 CLA has a clear appeal.
