I first saw an Europa at the Charlotte British Car Show 25 years ago. It was next to LLoyd Gillespie's XK150 OTS Jag. I loved it right off, but it took 25 years for me to buy one. It runs like a bat out of He..... Incredible manuverability.

Bad things: Too many projects, its an old car. Build quality is a mix of british carbuilding and french engineering... (!) However the driving experience is great, the sound is "real", and styling is stunning. My car has been altered with slightly larger wheelarches, better suspension, more power - and I'd recommend it to anyone capable of doing repairs on their own...

Overall, not a car for the faint of heart - or lacking in patience or mechanical aptitude. It's a 70's British car, no worse yet, it's a 1970 Lotus, so: agility over power, added lightness, and a frequent need to tighten anything with a screw, bolt, or lashing pretty much define it.

Many people say "don't drive the Lotus Europa further than you're willing to walk." This is entirely true. My family's Lotus has caught on fire twice and it's engine is officially frozen stuck and the clutch is bent, and the dashboard is in disarray. Overall it's a mess inside. But it still looks pretty sweet.
