Used Kia Sportage for Sale nearWhite, SD

How much does the Kia Sportage cost in today's market?

Used Kia Sportage prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:

The Kia Sportage's current nationwide average price is $21,295, and its lowest point over the past year was $19,698. Recently, prices have come down for the 2023 and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the Kia Sportage a good car?

Yes — the Kia Sportage is a strong used SUV choice if you want comfort, space, and a long list of features. The all-generations owner rating is 4.48/5 across every model year in the data.

Owners consistently praise the Sportage for its comfortable ride, spacious cabin, and strong value for the money. They also like the stylish design and the way many model years pack in useful tech and convenience features.

Expert reviews rate the 2017 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.

The main trade-offs are that some recent versions are described as fairly pedestrian to drive, and the X-Pro’s value proposition is less compelling than the rest of the lineup. Some years also bring interior materials that feel less upscale than the Sportage’s equipment list suggests.

34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Are Kia Sportage models reliable?

Owners and experts consistently point to the Sportage’s comfort, value, and everyday usability as major strengths. Across the model years in the data, owners also give it strong ratings, which supports its reputation as a dependable used SUV choice.

• Owners rate the Kia Sportage between 4.0 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by checking service history carefully, especially on older examples where condition and maintenance matter most.

What should I look for when buying a used Kia Sportage?

Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 80% — always verify the vehicle history report.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane following assist, and front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen are standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA fuel-economy ratings for the non-hybrid Sportage are 28 mpg combined (25 mpg city, 33 mpg highway) with FWD and 26 mpg combined (24 mpg city, 30 mpg highway) with AWD. Unless you opt for the Sportage X-Pro, that is. It’s rated at a lower 24 mpg combined (23 mpg city, 26 mpg highway). The other powertrain options are more efficient—the FWD Sportage hybrid is rated at 42 mpg combined, and the plug-in hybrid gets up to 34 miles of all-electric—but these numbers are comparable to the non-hybrid competition.

Which Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2026 Kia Sportage offers these trims:

• LX: The entry trim starts with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder, a six-speed automatic, and the standard 12.3-inch touchscreen and digital instrument cluster, making it the value-focused pick.
• EX: This trim adds more equipment while keeping the core Sportage formula intact, and it suits buyers who want a step up in comfort and convenience.
• SX: This trim brings a more premium feel and includes the Harman Kardon premium audio system, making it a strong choice if you want richer cabin features.
• SX-Prestige: This trim adds more upscale equipment and can be paired with AWD, making it a good fit if you want a more fully equipped Sportage.
• X-Line: This trim adds different front and rear bumpers, tread-like stitching for SynTex upholstery, and standard AWD, making it a good choice if you want a more rugged look with extra traction.
• X-Pro Prestige: This trim adds all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, different drive-mode tuning, and standard AWD, making it the most capable choice in the lineup for buyers who want the off-road-oriented version.

What Kia Sportage do most buyers choose?

The Kia Sportage years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you a wider selection of trims, prices, and equipment levels. They also sit close to the current generation’s strongest mix of modern tech, styling, and value.

What is the Kia Sportage's resale value?

Most model years in the table are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used. The declines are especially noticeable on several older and mid-cycle years, while a few newer examples are holding closer to flat or even moving up slightly.

The 2016 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.

The 2024, 2016, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
