The Kia Sportage's current nationwide average price is $20,983, and its lowest point over the past year was $19,695. Recently, prices have come down for the 2025 and 2026 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the Kia Sportage a good car?

Yes — the Kia Sportage is a strong used SUV choice if you value comfort, space, and features. The all-generations owner rating is 4.5/5 across every model year in the data.

The main trade-offs that show up in expert testing are fairly pedestrian performance, outdated-feeling tech in some years, and limited cargo space in certain generations. Some recent trims also ask a lot for the money, especially when you move into the more expensive versions.

What should I look for when buying a used Kia Sportage?

Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 79.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane following assist, and front and rear parking sensors.
• Infotainment: A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen are standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA fuel-economy ratings for the non-hybrid Sportage are 28 mpg combined (25 mpg city, 33 mpg highway) with FWD and 26 mpg combined (24 mpg city, 30 mpg highway) with AWD. Unless you opt for the Sportage X-Pro, that is. It’s rated at a lower 24 mpg combined (23 mpg city, 26 mpg highway). The other powertrain options are more efficient—the FWD Sportage hybrid is rated at 42 mpg combined, and the plug-in hybrid gets up to 34 miles of all-electric—but these numbers are comparable to the non-hybrid competition.

Which Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2026 Kia Sportage offers these trims:

• LX: The entry trim uses the 2.5-liter four-cylinder and gives you the core Sportage setup at the lowest price point.
• EX: This trim adds more equipment and is a strong value choice for shoppers who want a better-equipped daily driver.
• SX: This trim brings the Harman Kardon premium audio system and sits above the mainstream trims.
• SX-Prestige: This trim adds more upscale equipment and can be paired with AWD.
• X-Line: This trim adds different front and rear bumpers, a tread-like stitching pattern for SynTex artificial leather upholstery, and standard AWD.
• X-Pro Prestige: This is the most expensive non-hybrid trim and adds the X-Pro treatment with all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels, plus standard AWD.

What Kia Sportage do most buyers choose?

The Kia Sportage years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2025.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right trim, mileage, and price combination. They also sit close to the sweet spot where newer features and broader availability overlap.

What is the Kia Sportage's resale value?

Most model years are moving lower year over year, which is good news if you want to buy used and stretch your budget further. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer models, while a few older years are falling more gradually. One model year is bucking the trend with a small increase, showing that not every Sportage is moving the same way.

The 2024, 2016, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

• 2022: 8/10

For the safest used buy, the 2026 model posts the highest confirmed score of 10/10.

Should I buy a used Kia Sportage now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2026 model is at −10.54% versus a year ago, and the 2025 model is at −5.22%.
• Deal availability: The 2026 model has 37.8% good and great deals, and the 2025 model has 37%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $25,881. The Kia Sportage offers a roomy cabin and a comfortable, easygoing character that make it a practical everyday SUV.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The 2026 Sportage is available with conventional gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains, and the non-hybrid models use a naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque.
• Tech: A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen are standard, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both standard.
• Safety: Higher trim levels also feature adaptive cruise control synced with the navigation system to provide smoother driving through curves, and the even more advanced Highway Driving Assist system, which adds automated lane centering.
• Starting price: Pricing starts at $30,135 for a FWD Sportage LX.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
