Most model years are down year over year, which is good news if you're shopping used because prices have generally softened. The biggest drops are in the newer and higher-priced years, while a few older years are changing less dramatically. One model year is moving up slightly, showing that not every version is following the same pattern.
The 2016, 2019, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Should I buy a used GMC Sierra 3500HD now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −10.12% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −8.75%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 30.5% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 31.6%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $73,540.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the newest version, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

This truck was in pristine condition, exactly what I was after in a vehicle. I passed on it because the asking price was pretty much what it was worth new in 2015. I have a hard time paying that kind of money for a 11 year old truck.

Besides the bells and whistles we grabbed this dually because we pull a toy hauler. We went from a sturdy 2500 Dodge Ram to this beauty. We choose the dually 3500 due to the pulling capacity and payload as toy haulers are heavier in front to compensate for the weight that you can put in the back. We have no issues pulling it now and the truck does not squat because the support of the 4 tires. Other friends have regular 3500 and still have issues with the payload and had to put in more money into their vehicle to beef up the suspension when pulling a toy hauler because the payload is less. YOU WONT REGRET BUYING ONE!

Why it stands out
The 2025 GMC Sierra 3500HD stands out as a heavy-duty truck that blends serious work capability with a wide spread of trims and equipment. It can be configured as a regular cab, extended cab, or crew cab, with either a short bed or a long bed, and buyers can also choose between single- and dual-rear-wheel setups. That flexibility is part of its appeal, especially for shoppers who need a truck that can be tailored for towing, hauling, or everyday use.
Power comes from a 6.6-liter V8 or a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8, and the diesel is the stronger choice for maximum capability. The truck’s maximum towing and payload figures are among its defining traits, and the available trailering technology reinforces its work-first mission. For 2025, adaptive cruise control with trailering assist and parking sensors were available with more models, and the trailer brake controller became standard on all Sierra 3500HDs. Those updates make the truck easier to live with when it is doing the kind of demanding jobs it was built for.
At the same time, the Sierra 3500HD is not just about utility. Higher trims add a more upscale feel, with the Denali line in particular emphasizing luxury features and advanced tech. The truck’s main drawback is the same one that comes with most heavy-duty pickups: it can be unwieldy in parking lots, and top trims can be prohibitively expensive. Even so, the 2025 GMC Sierra 3500HD remains distinctive because it combines broad configuration choices, serious towing hardware, and a more refined personality than a bare-bones work truck.
