We paid the dealer for the vehicle, took it home and on the way to the mechanic the next morning a check engine light came on. The mechanic checked the code and it came back that the catalytic converter was bad. $2,200 to fix. The mechanic also said that when the catalytic converter goes bad it is usually an indication of a deeper problem. He said this vehicle has 2 and when one goes out the other usually follows quickly. When the dealer brought the car to us my husband noticed he had a reader in his bag. We suspect that he knew the catalytic converter was bad and reset the check engine light before we took the vehicle. We informed him of this and requested our money back which he gave us however he has not disclosed this information in his carguru ad. This vehicle will not pass smog yet he claimed it had. There are also a lot of cosmetic repairs that need to be done, bad water pump and minor surface rust underneath with all add up to over fair market value. Please help me to keep another unsuspecting buyer from being ripped off. He only got $250, for the option to cancel contract, from us but it could be much worse for the next guy if they don't think to insist on one. Thank you."
