Customer summary
Overall, owners of the Dodge Journey appreciate its spaciousness, comfortable seating, and versatile three-row layout, making it a great choice for families and long trips. Many like the smooth driving experience and the powerful V6 engine, especially in colder climates with higher-end features like all-wheel drive. However, there are notable concerns about reliability, especially with mechanical issues in earlier models, as well as dissatisfaction with fuel economy and certain outdated features like the lack of modern technology such as Bluetooth and rearview cameras. Some drivers have also pointed out concerns about the quality of safety features and overall performance, with some describing it as lacking in power and sluggish at times.

Which Dodge Journey trim should I buy?
The 2014 Dodge Journey offers these trims:
- American Value Package: The entry version is the most budget-focused choice and is aimed at buyers who want maximum room for minimal money.
- SE: This trim adds more equipment and popular options, making it the best-value pick for many shoppers.
- SXT: A popular choice that opens the door to more available equipment and options.
- SXT Plus: Builds on the SXT with additional equipment; the test vehicle in the expert review used this trim.
- Crossroad: Adds a sportier look and can be paired with a V6 engine.
- Limited: The more luxurious choice, with the V6 engine standard.
- R/T: The sportier trim, also with the V6 engine standard.
What Dodge Journey do most buyers choose?
The Dodge Journey years with the most listings are 2018, 2019, and 2017.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 1,298 | 28.4% |
| 2019 | 1,212 | 28.8% |
| 2017 | 1,152 | 27.4% |
| 2016 | 869 | 27.2% |
| 2020 | 700 | 30.1% |
| 2015 | 625 | 25.9% |

Exactly what we needed as a family vehicle. 3rd row is a huge bonus and the room on the inside is better than I could have imagined. Not as big as the Durango but bigger than the Ford Escape. Very pleased with the performance thus far. We had 8 inches of snow 2 days after we bought it, and it hadled the snow like a champ!

Overview
The originator of the suburban minivan, Dodge has taken a while to join the crossover segment, but finally makes its entry with the 2009 Dodge Journey. Billing itself as a perfect blend of SUV, minivan, and sedan, the Journey will compete with the Ford Edge and the Nissan Murano. Falling stylistically somewhere in between these two, the Journey shares a platform with the Sebring and Avenger, but is two inches taller and five inches longer. This means the standard two row, five-person seating can expand to a 5+2 configuration, with a two-person third row bench.
The Journey's selling point will be its cargo versatility and roomy interior, with reclining rear seats, a second row that moves forward and aft, and raised seating for both second and third rows. Storage bins in the floor, glove box, cargo area, and under seat cushions, along with integrated child seats put the focus on family utility. The crossover will be offered in three trims as a front-wheel drive model, with all-wheel drive available in the performance-oriented R/T. Two engine choices range from a 2.4 I4 to a 3.5 V6, with a diesel engine available outside the U.S.
The Dodge Journey attempts to integrate all the benefits of its genre-defining Caravan minivan, but steer away from the styling stigmas. Though essentially a station wagon, Dodge adds muscular wheel flares, sporty head and taillights, and a rear spoiler to bring its people hauler into the 21st century.
