Customers say
The Chevrolet Silverado SS is praised by owners for its powerful V8 engine, impressive acceleration, and solid handling. Many drivers enjoy its all-wheel drive capability, making it suitable for various driving conditions. The luxurious leather interior and high-end features add to its appeal. However, some owners have raised concerns about mechanical issues, particularly with components like front diff bearings, even at low mileage. Overall, the Silverado SS delivers a great combination of performance and comfort, but potential buyers should be aware of possible reliability concerns.

This is one mean machine - 415hp - this thing has so much torque that coming off the line it will literally chew the rubber off the tires. It may not run over 130 mph but it'll snap your neck leaving a stop light.

Put it simply: Corvette motor in and AWD full size truck... amazing performance for its weight and size. Draws attention from those who know what it is and those who want to know what it is. Drives very well... like a corvette truck lol

It's a rear-wheel drive Chevy Silverado SS with a 6.0 liter V8 power plant, full leather interior, dark tints, and a custom Bose / Memphis stereo... need I say more?

Overview
About the Chevrolet Silverado SS
The Chevrolet Silverado SS was a from-the-factory, high-performance pickup available for model years 2003 to 2006. Based on the Silverado 1500 Extended Cab, the Silverado SS featured General Motors’ high-output Vortec 6.0-liter V8 as well as exclusive exterior and interior styling. The full-size sports truck had standard four-wheel drive (4WD) at launch but was later available with rear-wheel drive (RWD).
What are the advantages of the Chevrolet Silverado SS?
The Silverado SS is notable for its powerful performance, suspension upgrades, and sporty styling. In addition to dynamics and handling akin to a sports sedan, the Silverado SS also proved to be a comfortable daily driver.
What is the best Chevrolet Silverado SS model year?
Even with a short lifespan, the Silverado SS had its share of year-over-year changes. Specifically, the 2005 Silverado SS featured the longest list of updates, the most significant being the arrival of optional RWD. Also new that year were standard chrome wheels, a digital HVAC system, a revised alternator, integrated electric fans, and an optional sunroof.
What are the disadvantages of the Chevrolet Silverado SS?
With the Silverado SS’ high horsepower numbers came diminished fuel economy returns. In its first model year, the 4WD-only performance truck offered an estimated 12 mpg city and 16 mpg highway. By 2006, EPA estimates improved slightly to 13 mpg city and 18 mpg highway with standard RWD when using premium gasoline.
The Silverado SS also wasn’t as quick as the competitively-spec’d Ford Lightning and Dodge SRT-10 and commanded a $40,000 starting price which, during the early aughts, was considered eye-opening.
Comparison: Is the Chevrolet Silverado SS better than the Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
If you prefer performance over practicality–and have the money to spend–the Silverado SS offers more head-turning fun than the Silverado 1500. Its 6.0-liter V8 produced 345 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, while the base Silverado 1500 mustered 200 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque with its standard 4.3-liter V6. And although the Silverado SS was racy, its driving feel wasn’t rigid thanks to a sport suspension that offered just enough road manners to be on the nice side of plush.
Is the Chevrolet Silverado SS a reliable car?
During its lifecycle, the Chevy Silverado has enjoyed an above-average reliability rating. Being based on a workhorse truck, the Silverado SS model likely falls under the same category with regard to long-term quality and driving experience.
How fast is the Chevrolet Silverado SS?
When equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission, the Silverado SS 4WD can reach 60 mph in 6.3 seconds and the quarter mile in 14.8 seconds, according to Car and Driver.
