Is the Chevrolet Colorado a good car?
Yes — the Chevrolet Colorado is a strong used-truck choice if you want capability, comfort, and versatility in a manageable size. The all-generations owner rating is 4.24/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, towing ability, and spacious interior, and many also like the way it balances work-truck usefulness with family-friendly comfort. Across the model years, the Colorado also earns recurring praise for its performance and versatility, especially in trims that lean into towing or off-road use.
Expert reviews rate the 2015 and 2025 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs show up in fuel economy, cabin materials, and ergonomics, with recent expert reviews also pointing to poor gas mileage and a cabin that can feel less polished than the truck’s styling suggests.
31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Chevrolet Colorado models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently highlight the Colorado’s strong capability, comfortable ride, and broad usefulness as a midsize pickup. Across the model years, it also earns praise for its performance and versatility, especially when you choose higher-spec trims.
- Owners rate the Chevrolet Colorado between 3.0 and 4.75 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is most worth watching on older trucks, where recurring transmission concerns and other age-related issues can affect confidence.
What should I look for when buying a used Chevrolet Colorado?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 95.4% |
| 2025 | 94% |
| 2024 | 91.7% |
| 2023 | 87.5% |
| 2022 | 81.2% |
| 2021 | 75.4% |
| 2020 | 68.7% |
| 2019 | 65.8% |
| 2018 | 64.8% |
| 2017 | 63.7% |
| 2016 | 63.2% |
| 2015 | 62.8% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2021 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist and Safety Package
- Infotainment: 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system running on Google built-in technology with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: returns up to 21 mpg in combined city and highway driving (RWD models)
Which Chevrolet Colorado trim should I buy?
The 2026 Chevrolet Colorado offers these trims:
- WT: The work-truck foundation gives you the entry point to the lineup and the most affordable path into the Colorado’s core capability.
- LT: This mid-grade trim serves as the basis for the Z71 and is the best-value choice if you want a stronger mix of everyday comfort and upgrade potential.
- Trail Boss: This trim adds off-road-tuned suspension, a two-inch factory lift, a wider stance, all-terrain tires, Off-Road and Terrain driving modes, and hill descent control.
- Z71: This trim builds on the LT with more off-road capability and sits above the Trail Boss in the hierarchy.
- ZR2: At the top of the lineup, this trim adds even more features and extra off-roading hardware, including 33-inch mud-terrain tires and Multimatic DSSV dampers.
What Chevrolet Colorado do most buyers choose?
The Chevrolet Colorado years with the most listings are 2023, 2024, and 2022.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 4,723 | 33.6% |
| 2024 | 3,975 | 34.2% |
| 2022 | 3,775 | 32.7% |
| 2025 | 3,348 | 33.8% |
| 2021 | 3,059 | 30.9% |
| 2020 | 2,438 | 29.9% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they combine broad availability with strong deal percentages, giving you more choices when you shop. They also sit close to the Colorado’s newer redesign era, which helps keep interest high among used-truck buyers.
What is the Chevrolet Colorado's resale value?

| 2022 | $25,932 | −9.37% |
| 2018 | $20,410 | −8.32% |
| 2019 | $21,886 | −7.9% |
| 2021 | $25,072 | −7.78% |
| 2015 | $15,849 | −7.58% |
| 2024 | $36,932 | −6.41% |
| 2023 | $33,665 | −6.26% |
| 2025 | $39,357 | −5.88% |

| 2016 | $16,958 | −5.2% |
| 2020 | $22,778 | −4.98% |
Most Colorado model years are moving lower year over year, which can work in your favor if you’re shopping used. The newer models are also seeing meaningful price drops, so recent years can offer a better entry point than they did a year ago. The smallest changes are concentrated in the older and mid-cycle years, which helps explain why some versions remain relatively steady.
The 2020, 2016, and 2017 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Customers say
The Chevrolet Colorado has consistently impressed owners with its balance of performance, comfort, and versatility across its model years. Many drivers highlight its smooth ride, good towing capability, and spacious interior, making it suitable for both families and work use. However, some common criticisms include cramped rear seating in certain models, cabin noise, and a wish for improved technology features. Overall, the Colorado is favored for its capable engines and good gas mileage, although some drivers have noted concerns regarding build quality and feature set, especially in lower trims.

Looks good in the pictures. When I went to go check it out, I found a rust hole in the frame (drivers side in front of the rear wheel). Also, someone had sprayed spray foam into the rockers, sanded it down, then painted over it. The undercarriage was coated with protection, but only after it started rusting. When I brought it up to the dealership they passed it off as "typical mn rust." A hole in the frame is not "typical." In my opinion, this truck is priced about $7,000 above what it's truly worth and the dealership has no interest in negotiating.

I really like the exterior aesthetic of this truck. It has an aggressive front-end styling and some key features to allow for some mild off-roading with no major modifications needed. Interior is very nice too, with leather seats and ZR2 badging on headrests. I can’t wait to drive it!

The Colorado trail boss is a fantastic vehicle. Plenty of power, especially for a 4 cylinder motor. No trouble at all keeping up with or moving past traffic. The over 11 inch screen is awesome. The truck looks stout and like a beast. Plenty of room in the back seat. Love this little beast!

Why it stands out
The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado stands out as a midsize truck that leans hard into the modern lifestyle-pickup formula. Its bold redesign gives it a more contemporary presence, and Chevrolet pairs that with a wide range of performance capabilities and cutting-edge technology. It is also positioned as a truck that caters more to recreation than work, which helps explain why it feels aimed at buyers who want something rugged without giving up everyday usability.
Behind the wheel, the Colorado’s strengths are easy to understand: its technology is easy to use, its on-road handling is refined, and its off-road handling is impressive. Those traits make it appealing whether the truck is being used for commuting or for weekend adventures. At the same time, it is not without compromises. The cabin materials are described as drab, there is only one cab/bed style, and the price is high, so shoppers may need to weigh its capability and polish against those limitations.
