Is the BMW X6 M a good car?
Yes — the BMW X6 M stands out because it builds on the X6’s original formula of a low-slung, coupe-like SUV and turns it into an even more extreme performance machine. Across its three generations, the X6 line has always emphasized style, power, and a sportier driving character than the mechanically related X5, and the X6 M sits at the sharpest end of that approach. That means aggressive styling, wide tires, sport suspension hardware, and a cabin that leans heavily into luxury and equipment rather than practicality.
The all-generations owner rating is 4.5/5 across every model year in the data.
34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are BMW X6 M models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently point to the X6 M’s strong engines, substantial chassis technology, and generous equipment as core strengths. The model also earns praise for its upscale interior materials, advanced driver-assistance tech, and performance-focused hardware.
- Owners rate the BMW X6 M between 3.3 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is highest on older V8-powered examples, where maintenance costs and repair exposure can be more demanding.
What should I look for when buying a used BMW X6 M?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 82.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 95.9% |
| 2025 | 91.6% |
| 2024 | 90.8% |
| 2023 | 91.4% |
| 2022 | 93.5% |
| 2021 | 91.4% |
| 2020 | 83.3% |
| 2019 | 71.4% |
| 2018 | 71.4% |
| 2017 | 65.6% |
| 2016 | 64.5% |
| 2015 | 59.4% |
| 2014 | 59.1% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2020 models.
What BMW X6 M do most buyers choose?
The BMW X6 M years with the most listings are 2024, 2023, and 2022.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 98 | 35.7% |
| 2023 | 93 | 37.6% |
| 2022 | 92 | 35.9% |
| 2025 | 83 | 36.1% |
| 2021 | 70 | 31.4% |
| 2020 | 54 | 29.6% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more choices on color, mileage, and price, which makes it easier to find a well-matched used example. They also tend to be the most visible in the market, so you can compare more listings before deciding.
Should I buy a used BMW X6 M now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the newest version, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
