Why it stands out
The 2025 BMW M4 sits at the intersection of performance, luxury, and practicality. As the high-performance member of the BMW 4 Series family, it is offered as a coupe or a convertible, with or without a manual transmission, and with rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive. That combination gives it unusual breadth for a performance car, letting buyers choose between open-air or hardtop body styles and between different driveline and transmission setups.
For 2025, the M4 receives a light detail refresh, a slight power bump for Competition xDrive models, and a new operating system for the infotainment system. It is also available as a limited-production M4 CS coupe. The result is a car that remains one of BMW’s best-driving models, with the ability to feel comfortable when you want it and track-ready when you need it.
The M4’s appeal is broadened by its four-passenger seating and decent cargo capacity, which make it more usable than many cars with similar performance ambitions. At the same time, it is not without compromises: it is expensive, its tech can be hit-or-miss, and the back seat is cramped.
