How much does the BMW 6 Series cost in today's market?
Used BMW 6 Series prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Round Range |
|---|---|---|
| 2017 | $22,108 | $21,928 – $26,170 |
| 2016 | $20,261 | $19,094 – $21,405 |
| 2015 | $16,840 | $16,740 – $18,340 |
| 2014 | $15,735 | $15,472 – $16,595 |
The BMW 6 Series' current nationwide average price is $16,930, and its lowest nationwide average price over the past year was $16,902. Recently, prices have come down for the 2015, 2016, and 2017 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Are BMW 6 Series models reliable?
Owners and experts consistently praise the BMW 6 Series for its strong performance, luxurious cabin, and engaging driving character. Across the model years, the car is repeatedly described as stylish, comfortable, and rewarding to drive.
- Owners rate the BMW 6 Series between 4.7 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is tied to the car’s premium engineering and higher upkeep expectations, so a well-documented service history matters.
What should I look for when buying a used BMW 6 Series?
Across all model years, at 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2019 | 67.6% |
| 2018 | 58.1% |
| 2017 | 55.7% |
| 2016 | 55.3% |
| 2015 | 57.5% |
| 2014 | 57.5% |
What BMW 6 Series do most buyers choose?
The BMW 6 Series years with the most listings are 2015, 2014, and 2016.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2015 | 219 | 31.5% |
| 2014 | 219 | 32.4% |
| 2016 | 190 | 33.7% |
| 2017 | 140 | 32.9% |
| 2018 | 86 | 38.4% |
| 2019 | 37 | 40.5% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more choices in color, mileage, trim, and condition, which makes it easier to compare listings and find a car that fits your budget and preferences. They also tend to attract more shopper attention, so you can often use the larger pool to focus on the best-priced examples.
What is the BMW 6 Series' resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2017 | $22,108 | −7.72% |
| 2015 | $16,840 | −4.02% |
| 2014 | $15,735 | −3.19% |
| 2016 | $20261 | −2.17% |
The table shows broad downward movement across the model years, which can create better buying opportunities for used shoppers. The largest drop is a sharp one, while the other years also moved lower over the past year. That pattern points to a market where patience can pay off if you’re shopping for value.
The 2016, 2014, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Reviewed a 2012 BMW 6 Series on Feb 13, 2025
The 2012 BMW six series grand coupe is remarkably an Exceptional, reliable one of a kind vehicle. I’ve owned two of them “650i Trim & 640i 4door”. Hands down, no complaints whatsoever during the time of which I owned/leased BMW model. Furthermore, the price point for its time in our era is impeccably underpriced in my opinion (used car/depreciated value per KBB to date). However, nevertheless, it’s good that it’s a hidden GEM that is slept on. Allowing the 2012 BMW to uphold its uniqueness and elite status quo, which I appreciate and value second to reliability, and this is coming from a man in my early mid 30s that has owned one of each model trim in the six series from 2012< it being my favorite car that I’ve ever “owned/leased/Pre-Own purchases”. Ref; BMW GrandCoupe’ 640i and 650i.

Awesome car, super fun to drive engine can be both pricey and problematic if your careful or unfamiliar with its common issues but if u can get past that the car is a BLAST to drive/own & turns heads everywhere.

Good looking, sexy, solid, but heavy. Handling isn't exactly what you'd expect from a car of the genre. My 2008 is the revised edition.. and does look much better than the first gen.. arguably better than even the latest gen....probably the best German car value out there right now. These cars go cheap.. and the are really great vehicles.

Why it stands out
The 2015 BMW 6 Series stands out as a style-first luxury grand tourer that still puts driving enjoyment at the center of the experience. In BMW’s third-generation 6 Series lineup, it belongs to the era that added a four-door Gran Coupe to the coupe and convertible body styles, and it was also the generation that brought in the factory-tuned Alpina B6. That combination gives the car a broader personality than a simple two-door luxury coupe: it is meant to look dramatic, feel special, and deliver serious performance.
For 2015, the 6 Series also benefited from a visual refresh with new headlights and bumpers. The model’s appeal is reinforced by its strong equipment list and upscale cabin, along with the fact that BMW had already made it a comfortable and engaging car to drive. Buyers looking at this year get a car that is stylish and rewarding, but they should also keep in mind that the back seat is snug even in the Gran Coupe, and that ownership costs remain high. Owners’ enthusiasm for the car’s fun driving experience, luxurious feel, and strong performance lines up well with what makes the 2015 BMW 6 Series distinctive in the used-car market.
