Which BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW 4 Series offers these trims:

• 430i: The 430i is the value pick, with Sport or M Sport styling, rear-wheel drive at launch, and the core 4 Series driving experience; it suits you if you want the model’s style and balance without stepping up to the more expensive performance trim.
• M440i: The M440i adds M Performance design, Shadowline trim treatment, M Sport suspension and brakes, run-flat tires, an M steering wheel, bespoke alloy wheels, Sensatec dashboard trim, a rear spoiler, and keyless entry; it suits you if you want the most complete mix of performance and equipment.

What BMW 4 Series do most buyers choose?

The BMW 4 Series years with the most listings are 2025, 2023, and 2024.

These higher-volume years tend to attract more shoppers because they offer a broad mix of newer features, strong availability, and a wide spread of prices. That combination gives you more choices when you want to compare equipment, mileage, and condition.

What is the BMW 4 Series's resale value?

Most model years are down year over year, which is helpful if you want to buy used after the initial price drop. The newer models are also declining, though at a somewhat smaller pace than some older years. Overall, the table points to broad softening across the lineup rather than stable or rising values.

The 2015, 2016, and 2026 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used BMW 4 Series now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2026 model is at −3.71% versus a year ago, and the 2025 model is at −4.93%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 35% good and great deals.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $47,724. The BMW 4 Series offers a premium, driver-focused character that blends style, comfort, and engaging road manners.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: Our 430i RWD test vehicle had a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine making 255 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque, and BMW's quoted 5.8 seconds from rest to 60 mph is credible.
• Tech: The iDrive 7 system also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and a cloud-based navigation system kept current by over-the-air updates.
• Safety: The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, lane-change assistance, emergency stop assistance, evasive steering assistance, front cross-traffic alert, and a Traffic Jam Assistant system.
• Starting price: Our Sunset Orange 430i test vehicle included an extra-cost paint charge, leather seats, a Shadowline Package, a Premium Package, a Parking Assistance Package, an M Sport Package, and a Dynamic Handling Package, bringing its price to $57,295, including a $995 destination charge.

If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
