Which BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW 4 Series offers these trims:

• 430i: The 430i is the value pick, with Sport or M Sport styling, a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine making 255 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque, and the eight-speed Sport automatic transmission.
• M440i: The M440i adds M Performance design, Shadowline trim treatment, M Sport suspension and brakes, run-flat tires, an M steering wheel, bespoke alloy wheels, and keyless entry.

What BMW 4 Series do most buyers choose?

The BMW 4 Series years with the most listings are 2025, 2023, and 2024.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare and a stronger chance of finding the right color, trim, and equipment mix. They also line up with newer-model features and a healthy share of good and great deals.

What is the BMW 4 Series's resale value?

Most model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used because it creates more room for value. The steepest drops are concentrated in several newer and mid-cycle years, while a few older examples are changing more slowly. That pattern suggests you can often find meaningful savings without having to move all the way to the oldest cars.

The 2015, 2018, and 2016 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used BMW 4 Series now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2026 model is at −7.88% versus a year ago, and the 2025 model is at −5.93%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 40.1% good and great deals.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $47,051. The BMW 4 Series offers a stylish, premium driving experience with a strong blend of comfort and engaging handling.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The 4 Series Gran Coupe and the Kia Stinger each weigh more than 4,000 pounds in top specification, but the BMW doesn't feel like it. Instead, it has a lighter and more lively feel from behind the wheel, thanks to old-fashioned BMW goodness baked right in. Our 430i RWD test vehicle had a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine making 255 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque.
• Tech: The standard Live Cockpit Professional setup pairs a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display, and the iDrive 7 system also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and a cloud-based navigation system kept current by over-the-air updates.
• Safety: Active Driving Assistant is standard on every 4 Series Gran Coupe, and the Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, lane-change assistance, evasive steering assistance, front cross-traffic alert, and Traffic Jam Assistant.
• Starting price: The 2022 test vehicle brought its price to $57,295, including a $995 destination charge.

If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
