The young people of that era seemed to like this vehicle, I only got mine in 1965 as a project for rebuild. The top speed was in line with it's handling which was average for a 1947 vehicle. I enjoyed owning it for 2 years

Squidgy family car of the mid fifties which was the last Austin built with a separate chassis. Same underpinnings as the A40 Devon but with slightly improved cylinder head. Still underpowered for size/weight if car with only 1200cc engine. The column gear change is fine so long as its not rushed. The car draws lots of attention and has proved very reliable

nice little classic car, the Austin a40, very cheap to run, free tax, easy to get parts for, this one i picked up cheap, and its only done 37000miles from new. was found in a barn, there is no rot on the car at all, and everything works. will not take much to get it back on the road. this has been unused since 2000. it runs sweet as a nut and has good brakes and drives very nice, the a40 has lots of room in the back because the rear seats fold down to give loads of load space.

Great car nice and reliable, keeps up with the cars or its time but the top speed and the braking distance just can't keep up with the cars of today, but its still a blast to drive .................Austin a 40
