Why it stands out
The 2014 Acura TL stands out as the final year of Acura’s first-generation TL sedan, and it reflects the model’s role as the larger, more mature, and more powerful sibling in Acura’s lineup. It was positioned as a premium sport sedan with a choice of two engines, giving buyers a clear split between efficiency and stronger performance. The four-cylinder version produced 206 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque, while the V6 made 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. That range of powertrains, along with the available SH-AWD system on V6 models, helped give the TL a broader appeal than many rivals.
The 2014 TL also offered a well-equipped cabin for its era. Standard equipment included four-wheel steering, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and brake lights, a sunroof, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, heated power front seats, and a seven-speaker audio system. Its infotainment setup used two displays, and the optional Technology Package added real leather seating surfaces, voice command capability, navigation, and an ELS 10-speaker premium audio system. For buyers wanting more comfort and convenience, the Advance Package on V6 models added 18-inch wheels, parking sensors, LED foglights, ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic braking for forward collision mitigation.
At the same time, the 2014 TL had some drawbacks that shoppers should keep in mind. The V6 was paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission that would later prove troublesome, and the car’s overall packaging was not as roomy or practical as some buyers might want. Even so, the 2014 Acura TL remains distinctive for combining strong available performance, a generous feature set, and Acura’s willingness to offer unusual hardware such as four-wheel steering in a mainstream luxury sedan.
