1997 Acura CL 2.2 Review
by Nathanael

well worth it and it should go a very long time if taken care of

great little car, mine is the base so it is not really that quick, but is very reliable. I am sold on Acura and might be buying the 2003 Cl Type S with a six speed manual and 265 HP. The only weakness of the 97 is the automatic transmission, so the Type S will solve that.

Avg. Dealer Rating: (1 review) "If I could give this dealer a rating lower than 1 star, I would. I've been on the market for a Subaru BRZ and the one they have on their lot for 18k caught my eye. My husband and I spoke to them over the span of almost a week concerning the car. First off, it's heavily modified - and badly. Turbocharger kit that's on it's last legs and an addition for tuning the car that smells like it'should frying the wiring. The online entry said nothing about that. Secondly, there's a severe dent on the driver side door that almost looks like it was in a wreck that they've managed to hide with the angles of their pictures. We were assured that the car ran smoothly and was a great drive. They stated they were not familiar with the modifications and could not give a guarantee or warrantee due to that. I informed them that we would be coming from Virginia to look at the car - a whopping 400+ mile drive one way - and they continued behind their story of the car being great and in great condition. When we got there, we saw the extent of the cosmetic damage AND the car would not start. They offered to change the battery which made me question the state of the alternator and we began getting conflicting stories. "We drive it every day - it's strange it's not starting," and then "Oh, we just haven't driven it in a while." When they managed to get it to start, it backfired and began spewing a huge cloud of blue smoke. The car could not even idle smoothly. They told us the RPMS stayed around 1k but, they actually jump from 2.5k to 3k, erratically, and listening to the car run is painful. I knew then that I was not going to buy the car, but had driven over 400 miles to see it, so I climbed inside to look at the interior. The smell of burning oil and overheating electrical wiring made me sick. My husband drove it around the lot and I insisted on being let out before it touched the road due to feeling it was unsafe and getting ill from the emissions flooding the cabin. The lot still wanted to do business with me after wasting my time for a 800+ mile trip to Indiana and back under the pretense of a car that "runs smoothly." DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. I did not look at all of their cars, but the ones I saw had NO WARRANTY - AS IS on them and for a reason. They wouldn't even assure me the car would make it out of the city, but tried to blame the gas they used, tried to tell us not to be scared of the modifications, and tried to continue to underplay the pitiful and dangerous state of the car. As someone that has had a car with a functioning turbocharger, I'll let you know that they do not spout blue smoke and they do not idle erratically. Forced induction, when not installed correctly and maintained properly, can and will destroy the engine. Also, the exhaust stopped producing as huge of a cloud of smoke after the owner of the lot drove the car hard for a while - do not be deceived if you visit this lot and the BRZ is not spouting a cloud of smoke. That means they likely drove it in preparation of your arrival to make it look like it works better than it does. Go elsewhere and get a working BRZ for roughly the same price."

Avg. Dealer Rating: (3 reviews) "Great experience! Owner was out of town but his agent Cleo helped us to close the transaction. They contacted me very quickly when I requested information about the vehicle through Car Gurus. Although they were closed, they met me at the lot to allow me to test drive and purchase the van. Great people to work with!"
