Is the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser a good car?

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser earns a 7.5/10 expert rating, and it’s aimed at you if you want a rugged SUV that can handle commuting during the week and trail duty on the weekend. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The data points to a Land Cruiser that blends serious off-road hardware with a more modern, efficiency-minded setup. Toyota kept the body-on-frame formula but moved to a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain, and the SUV also brings full-time four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, locking differentials, and Crawl Control. At the same time, the expert notes say it feels only adequately powerful on the road, so you should think of it as capability-first rather than quick.

The main trade-offs are that it runs on premium fuel and has a high, uneven cargo load floor. It also gives up some practicality with no third row and tight rear-seat legroom for taller passengers.

With 34.6% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser reliable?

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser is presented as a durable, body-on-frame SUV with Toyota’s well-known reliability reputation behind it, and the expert notes frame it as a vehicle built for serious use rather than delicate ownership. Its hybrid powertrain is described as having more than adequate torque, and the off-road hardware is engineered to handle demanding terrain without drama.

The performance notes also point to a setup that’s meant to work hard: full-time four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, locking differentials, hill-start assist, hill-descent assist, and Crawl Control all support long-term capability. The cost-effectiveness notes also reinforce Toyota’s reputation for reliability and resale value.

For used buyers, the long-term risk is less about the basic design and more about how hard the SUV was used off-road and whether premium-fuel, truck-like ownership has been maintained properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 99.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has seen trail use or towing. Focus on the condition of the suspension, underbody, tires, brakes, and any signs of hard off-road use, since this Land Cruiser is built to be used hard. It’s also worth checking that the cabin features and driver-assistance systems work as expected, because the higher-spec versions add more equipment.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 1958 has round headlights and cloth seats, while the higher trim level gets rectangular lamps and standard artificial leather upholstery. The more expensive version also offers more colors and more features, so the base trim is the one where you’ll feel the biggest equipment gap.
• Powertrain: You’re looking at a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder hybrid with an electric motor, paired with an eight-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive. It makes 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, and Toyota recommends premium fuel.
• Safety package: Every Land Cruiser gets Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes high-beam assist, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors with automatic low-speed braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist with automatic emergency stop capability, Proactive Driving Assist, blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe-exit assist. The Premium Package adds lane-change assist, front cross-traffic alert, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The 1958 uses a 7-inch digital driver display and an 8-inch touchscreen. The higher trim level upgrades to a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen, with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless phone charging, and Toyota Connected Services.
• Fuel efficiency: The Land Cruiser is rated at 23 mpg combined on premium fuel.

Which 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser trim should I buy?

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser is offered in 2 trim levels: Land Cruiser 1958 and Land Cruiser.

Here's the short version:

• Land Cruiser 1958: This is the value play if you want the Land Cruiser experience at the lower entry price. You still get the core off-road hardware and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, but the cabin is simpler, the displays are smaller, and you miss out on the more advanced tech and some of the nicer convenience features.
• Land Cruiser: This is the better choice if you want the version that feels more complete. It adds the larger 12.3-inch displays, wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more available upgrades, so it’s the best-value trim if you plan to keep the SUV for daily use as well as trail duty.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the Premium Package adds lane-change assist, front cross-traffic alert, and Traffic Jam Assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting a fire-sale environment.

• Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 228 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 99.6% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser safe?

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. It also received mostly Good IIHS ratings, with some Acceptable and Marginal scores in the mix.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, and it includes high-beam assist, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors with automatic low-speed braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist with automatic emergency stop capability, and Proactive Driving Assist. Standard blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe-exit assist add more coverage, while the Premium Package adds lane-change assist, front cross-traffic alert, and Traffic Jam Assist.

The main caveat is the IIHS result: the updated moderate overlap frontal test produced a Marginal score for rear-seat passenger protection, and the more expensive Land Cruiser’s rectangular headlights also scored lower than the 1958’s round headlights.

Should I buy a 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2027 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2027 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 99.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2027 Land Cruiser keeps the rugged body-on-frame formula but adds a modern hybrid powertrain, updated tech, and limited changes that preserve the model’s refined-yet-rugged character.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version of this Land Cruiser formula, the 2027 model is the one to target because it combines strong off-road hardware, improved efficiency, and a well-equipped cabin. If you’re more price-sensitive, you can shop the market carefully and focus on the better-priced listings, since the deal mix is decent and the model’s core appeal is already well established.
