Is the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser a good car?

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser earns a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It’s a strong fit if you want a premium, highly capable SUV that can handle weekday commuting and weekend trail duty without giving up modern comfort. Toyota kept the body-on-frame layout but moved to a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid setup, and the Land Cruiser pairs that with full-time four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, locking differentials, and CRAWL Control. The cabin is also positioned as a comfortable place to spend time, with useful tech and available upgrades that make it feel more modern than the old-school formula it replaces.

The trade-offs are real: it feels only adequately powerful on the road, it doesn’t offer a third row, rear-seat legroom can be tight for tall passengers, and cargo space tops out at 37.5 cubic feet. It also runs on premium unleaded fuel and can tow up to 6,000 pounds.

With 32.5% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser reliable?

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser is presented as a rugged, well-engineered SUV with a modern hybrid powertrain and Toyota’s usual emphasis on durability. The hybrid setup pairs a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, and the truck-based chassis, full-time four-wheel drive, and off-road hardware all point to a vehicle built for hard use. The expert evaluation also describes it as a refined yet rugged SUV that can handle commuting during the week and weekend escapes without drama.

The performance notes suggest the powertrain has enough torque to feel strong when you roll into the throttle, even if it doesn’t feel quick in an outright sense. Toyota also recommends premium fuel, and the Land Cruiser’s fuel economy is described as solid for the class at 23 mpg combined. The cost-effectiveness discussion adds that Toyota’s reputation for reliability and resale value is a meaningful part of the ownership equation.

If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is still a premium, capability-focused SUV with premium-fuel requirements and complex off-road and hybrid systems, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 100% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

Even with clean inventory, you should still run a history report and prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Focus on how the drivetrain behaves at low speeds, whether the brakes feel smooth, and whether the cabin and cargo area show signs of hard use from off-road or family duty. You should also verify that the features you want are actually present, since the two versions differ meaningfully in equipment.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 1958 has round headlights and cloth seats, while the higher trim level uses rectangular lamps and standard artificial leather upholstery. The more expensive version also offers more colors and more features and optional upgrades, so the base trim is the one to scrutinize if you want the most equipment for the money.
• Powertrain: The Land Cruiser uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder hybrid system with an electric motor, making 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. It comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission, full-time four-wheel drive, and 6,000 pounds of towing capacity.
• Safety package: Every Land Cruiser has Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes high-beam assist, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors with automatic low-speed braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and lane-centering assist with automatic emergency stop capability. It also includes Proactive Driving Assist, blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe-exit assist. The Premium Package adds lane-change assist, front cross-traffic alert, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The 1958 uses a 7-inch digital driver display and an 8-inch touchscreen. The higher trim level upgrades to a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen, with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless phone charging, and Toyota Connected Services available on the test vehicle.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimate is 23 mpg combined on premium fuel.

Which 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser trim should I buy?

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser is offered in 2 trim levels: Land Cruiser 1958 and Land Cruiser.

Here's the short version:

• Land Cruiser 1958: This is the value play if you want the Land Cruiser experience at the lower starting price. It keeps the core off-road hardware and hybrid powertrain, but you give up the more upscale lighting, larger screens, and some of the extra features found on the higher trim.
• Land Cruiser: This is the better choice if you want the more complete version of the SUV. It adds the more sophisticated tech stack, standard artificial leather upholstery, more colors, and more available upgrades, making it the best-value trim for most shoppers who want the Land Cruiser’s comfort and convenience to match its capability.

The Premium Package adds lane-change assist, front cross-traffic alert, and Traffic Jam Assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser?

Is the 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser safe?

The 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it mostly Good ratings, with some Acceptable and Marginal scores in the mix.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, and it brings high-beam assist, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, front and rear parking sensors with automatic low-speed braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, lane-centering assist with automatic emergency stop capability, and Proactive Driving Assist. Standard equipment also includes blind-spot monitors with trailer coverage, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe-exit assist.

The Premium Package adds lane-change assist, front cross-traffic alert, and Traffic Jam Assist. The main caveat is that the IIHS gave the rectangular headlights on the more expensive Land Cruiser model a Marginal result, while the 1958’s round headlights scored Good.

Should I buy a 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2027 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 100% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2027 Land Cruiser keeps the refined-yet-rugged formula and adds limited updates, including a new paint color, available heated and ventilated rear seats, and an accessory high-mounted air intake.

The bottom line: If you want the latest version of this Land Cruiser formula, the 2027 is the one to target because it preserves the core strengths while adding a few useful updates. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year can still make sense as long as you find the right condition, equipment, and price.
