New & Used 2026 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearSouth Thomaston, ME

Is the 2026 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2026 Toyota 4Runner earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.

The 4Runner’s appeal is its old-school SUV character: it is built for adventure rather than maximum everyday comfort, and it stands out as one of the better off-roaders on the market. That makes it a strong fit if you want a rugged SUV that can still carry passengers.

The trade-offs are clear. It makes compromises in passenger comfort and interior space, and its ride is firm and jiggly. It is offered as a hybrid, but the hybrid isn’t very efficient.

For shoppers who prioritize adventure, that combination gives it a clear identity. For buyers who want a five- or seven-passenger SUV mainly for daily family duty, a crossover would be the more comfortable and affordable choice. Good and great deals account for 36.3% of listings.

Is the 2026 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 4Runner’s rugged, body-on-frame setup and adventure-first mission suggest a vehicle built around durability-minded use, and the expert summary reinforces that it is meant to extend your adventures rather than chase maximum comfort.

Its powertrain lineup includes a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder and an available hybrid system, and the hybrid’s torque is described as useful for off-roading and low-range driving. Toyota also includes maintenance updates and vehicle health reports through Service Connect, which can help you stay on top of ownership needs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the same off-road focus that makes it appealing can also mean more compromise in ride quality and everyday livability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering one of the more off-road-focused trims. Pay close attention to suspension condition, tire wear, and signs of hard use, since this SUV is often bought for adventure-oriented driving.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base cabin uses cloth upholstery and an 8-inch touchscreen, while higher trims add synthetic leather or leather, a larger 14-inch touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The base trim also misses the wireless phone charger.
• Powertrain: The 4Runner offers a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, plus an i-Force Max hybrid with 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. The hybrid adds torque for off-roading, but it is not especially quick.
• Safety package: Every 4Runner gets Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, including forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, road-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Blind-spot monitors, front and rear cross-traffic alert, and traffic-jam assist are also standard.
• Infotainment: Standard tech includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-inch touchscreen, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Higher trims expand to a 14-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital cluster, and the larger screen brings a 14-speaker JBL audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is rated at 23 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined. Non-hybrid versions are rated at 22 mpg combined for RWD and 21 mpg combined for other 4WD versions.

Which 2026 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2026 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 9 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, Trailhunter, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, but it is the most basic way into the lineup, so it makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the larger screens and added convenience features.
• TRD Sport: This is the next step up if you want a little more equipment than the base trim without jumping into the more specialized off-road models.
• TRD Sport Premium: This is the better-value choice if you want the upgraded tech and comfort features that make the cabin feel more complete.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the best-value trim for buyers who want the 4Runner’s core mission at the lowest price among the more capable models. It adds serious off-road hardware, including a locking rear differential, Bilstein remote-reservoir dampers, skid plates, all-terrain tires, and the Multi-Terrain System.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: Choose this if you want the TRD Off-Road’s capability plus the Multi-Terrain Monitor and more convenience.
• Limited: This is the more street-friendly choice, with a lower ride height and full-time 4WD that is easier to live with on pavement.
• Platinum: This is the upscale pick if you want the more premium cabin treatment and the standard hybrid powertrain.
• Trailhunter: This is for buyers who want the most adventure-ready hardware, including a snorkel, rock rails, an onboard compressor, and ARB roof rack equipment.
• TRD Pro: This is the most extreme version, with Fox adjustable remote-reservoir shocks, extra underbody protection, and the most aggressive off-road setup.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitors, front and rear cross-traffic alert, and traffic-jam assist are standard too.
