New & Used 2026 Subaru Outback for Sale nearSan Bernardino, CA

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback a good car?

The 2026 Subaru Outback earns an expert rating of 7.2/10. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

It stands out because it is all-new and presents itself in an SUV-like form while still keeping the advantages of its wagon heritage. That combination gives you a distinctive, practical vehicle that feels familiar in the ways that matter, while still looking more rugged than a traditional wagon.

In testing, it came across as equally capable off-road and comfortable on pavement, which broadens its appeal beyond one type of driving. You also get plenty of cargo space and a strong overall sense of price, performance, and practicality.

The main trade-off is that higher trim levels have diminishing returns, so the value proposition is strongest before you climb too far up the lineup. Even so, the market shows 38.7% of listings as good or great deals, which supports a selective-buyers case.

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback reliable?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is presented as a vehicle that should fit well with Subaru’s safety-minded reputation, and the expert review says its recent track record points in a positive direction. It also notes that the redesigned Outback feels composed and confident in everyday driving, with a powertrain that most drivers should find more than adequate.

The performance write-up adds that the base engine responds quicker than expected from the CVT, doesn’t sound overworked in highway merging, and remains calm enough for long-distance use. That combination suggests a powertrain that should be easy to live with over time.

The cost-effectiveness section also notes that the base model should easily please the majority of drivers, including those who use it on moderate off-road terrain. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is paying too much for higher trims whose added value may not hold up as well as the core package.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a vehicle that may have seen trail use or frequent highway miles. Focus on overall condition, feature operation, and signs of wear that could matter more on a versatile vehicle like this.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Premium trim already brings attractive interior materials, physical climate controls, and a practical cabin layout, while higher trims add smoother materials and a more upscale feel. The Touring trim adds premium touches, but the review says higher trims have diminishing returns.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder makes 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, while XT models use a turbocharged 2.4-liter boxer-four with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. The base engine is described as more capable than expected, and the CVT includes eight simulated gears.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep and lane-centering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, automatic emergency steering, emergency stop assist, haptic steering wheel alerts, a driver condition monitor, adaptive headlights, and automatic high beams. The Touring trim adds a surround-view camera system, hands-free automated highway driving assist, active lane-change assist, and highway pre-curve speed control.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel ahead of the driver. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto both work wirelessly, and a wireless charging pad is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is estimated at 25/31 mpg city/highway and 27 mpg combined, while the turbocharged XT models are estimated at 21/29 mpg city/highway and 24 mpg combined.

Which 2026 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Touring, and Wilderness.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the best-value choice if you want the core Outback experience without paying for extras that don’t move the needle much. It already gives you the practical cabin, strong everyday usability, and the standard safety suite, so it’s the trim most buyers should start with.
• Touring: Choose this if you want the most upscale Outback and value added convenience and driver-assist features. It adds premium equipment such as the surround-view camera system, hands-free automated highway driving assist, active lane-change assist, and highway pre-curve speed control.
• Wilderness: Pick this if your priorities lean more toward adventure use and you want the most off-road-capable version mentioned here. The review says it is more off-road-capable, but also makes clear that the standard Outback already handles moderate terrain well.

The Touring trim enhances some standard safety features and adds premium driver-assist equipment, while the surround-view camera system is also available on supporting trims as an option.

Choose the 2026 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The redesigned Outback looks like an SUV but keeps wagon practicality, with strong off-road ability and comfortable on-road manners.
