New & Used 2026 Subaru Outback for Sale nearSalinas, CA

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback a good car?

The 2026 Subaru Outback earns an expert rating of 7.17/10. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

The redesigned Outback stands out because it looks more SUV-like while keeping the practical advantages of its wagon heritage. In testing, it came across as equally capable off-road and comfortable on pavement, and it also offers plenty of cargo space for everyday use. Subaru’s feature updates reinforce that usefulness, especially if you want a versatile vehicle that blends comfort, capability, and utility.

The main trade-off is that higher trim levels have diminishing returns, so the value story is strongest before you climb too far up the lineup. Even so, the 2026 Subaru Outback remains appealing if you want a practical, adventure-friendly vehicle with broad everyday appeal. Good and great deals account for 37.5% of listings.

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback reliable?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is presented as a well-rounded, confidence-inspiring redesign that should suit buyers who want a practical vehicle with broad capability. The expert evaluation emphasizes strong price, performance, and practicality, and it also notes that the Outback feels composed and confident in city and highway driving.

Its performance content also points to a calm, usable powertrain setup: the base engine is described as more than adequate for most drivers, the CVT avoids the loud drone many shoppers dislike, and the vehicle remains relatively quiet in most situations. Subaru’s safety suite is standard across the lineup, which adds to the sense that the Outback is built for everyday dependability.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that higher trims may not deliver enough extra value to justify their added cost.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and inspect any candidate carefully, especially if you plan to use it for commuting, family duty, or light off-road travel. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear from cargo use, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect for the price. If you’re considering a higher trim, make sure the added features are ones you’ll actually use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Premium trim already brings attractive woven textile interior materials, a digital instrument panel, a 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, and physical climate controls. Higher trims add smoother materials and leather upholstery, while the Touring trim’s saddle-brown cabin palette gives it a warmer, more rugged feel.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder makes 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, while XT models use a turbocharged 2.4-liter boxer-four with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both pair with a CVT and all-wheel drive, and the base engine is described as more capable than expected.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard and includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep and lane-centering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, automatic emergency steering, emergency stop assist, haptic steering wheel alerts, a driver condition monitor, adaptive headlights, and automatic high beams. The Touring trim adds a surround-view camera system, hands-free automated highway driving assist, active lane-change assist, and highway pre-curve speed control.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a 12.1-inch touchscreen, and the system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A wireless charging pad is available, and native navigation is optional on the base Premium trim and standard on all others.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is estimated at 27 mpg combined (25/31 mpg city/highway), the turbocharged XT models at 24 mpg combined (21/29 mpg city/highway), and the Wilderness at 23 mpg combined (21/27 mpg city/highway).

Which 2026 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Touring, and Wilderness.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the best-value choice if you want the Outback’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not need. It already gives you the practical cabin layout, strong standard safety equipment, and the base engine that the experts found more than adequate for most drivers.
• Touring: This is the trim to choose if you want the most comfort and the most advanced driver-assist content. It adds premium cabin touches and extra features such as the surround-view camera system, hands-free automated highway driving assist, active lane-change assist, and highway pre-curve speed control.
• Wilderness: This is the pick if your priorities lean hardest toward adventure use. It brings the more off-road-focused setup and is the trim to consider if you want the most capability-oriented version of the Outback.

The Touring trim adds some premium safety and convenience features, while the surround-view camera system is also available on supporting trims as an option.

Choose the 2026 if:

• 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The redesigned Outback looks like an SUV but keeps wagon practicality, with strong off-road ability and comfortable on-road manners.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It offers a rugged wagon shape, standard all-wheel drive, and strong everyday practicality.

The bottom line: Choose the 2026 if you want the newest Outback’s broader appeal, updated cabin, and strong all-around capability.
