New & Used 2026 Subaru Outback for Sale near New Mexico

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback a good car?

The 2026 Subaru Outback earns an expert rating of 7.2/10. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

The 2026 Outback is all-new, and its SUV-like shape gives you a more rugged look without giving up the wagon-style practicality that helps it stand out. In testing, it proved equally capable off-road and comfortable on pavement, and it also brings plenty of cargo space for everyday use. Subaru’s feature upgrades are aimed at how you actually use the vehicle, which supports its strong blend of price, performance, and practicality.

The main trade-off is that higher trim levels have diminishing returns, so the value story is strongest before you move too far up the lineup. Even so, the 2026 Outback remains a compelling choice if you want a versatile vehicle that balances comfort, capability, and utility.

Good and great deals account for 34.8% of listings, which gives you a moderate amount of market flexibility.

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback reliable?

The 2026 Outback is presented as a well-rounded redesign with a strong emphasis on usability, and its expert evaluation points to a vehicle that should suit buyers who want confidence in daily driving and weekend use. Its performance notes also suggest a composed, predictable driving experience, with the base engine feeling more capable than expected and the cabin staying relatively quiet in most situations.

The expert review also highlights that the transmission avoids the usual harsh drone you might associate with this type of setup, and the vehicle’s off-road systems are described as straightforward and effective. If you want a useful long-term ownership choice, the main risk is paying too much for higher trims that don’t add enough value for the money.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one that may have seen trail use. Focus on overall condition, cabin wear, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Premium trim already brings attractive interior materials, physical climate controls, and a practical cabin layout, while higher trims add smoother materials and a more upscale feel. The Touring trim stands out with a saddle-brown interior palette and more premium equipment, but the value gap widens as you climb.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, while XT models use a turbocharged 2.4-liter boxer-four with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both pair with a CVT and all-wheel drive, and the base engine is described as more capable than expected.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep and lane-centering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, automatic emergency steering, emergency stop assist, haptic steering wheel alerts, a driver condition monitor, adaptive headlights, and automatic high beams. The Touring trim adds a surround-view camera system, hands-free automated highway driving assist, active lane-change assist, and highway pre-curve speed control.
• Infotainment: The Outback uses a 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, and it pairs with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work wirelessly, and a wireless charging pad is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is estimated at 25/31 mpg city/highway and 27 mpg combined, while the turbocharged XT models are estimated at 21/29 mpg city/highway and 24 mpg combined.

Which 2026 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Touring, and Wilderness.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the best-value choice if you want the core Outback experience without paying for extras that don’t move the needle much. It already gives you the practical cabin, strong standard safety equipment, wireless smartphone integration, and the base engine that the review says is more than adequate for most drivers.
• Touring: Choose this if you want the most upscale Outback and are willing to pay for it. It adds premium touches and extra driver-assistance tech, but the review warns that the higher price brings diminishing returns.
• Wilderness: This is the pick if you want the most adventure-ready version and plan to use the Outback for tougher terrain. It adds more off-road capability, but it also sits at a much higher price point.

The Touring trim adds some premium safety and convenience features, while the surround-view camera system is also available on supporting trims as an option.
