New & Used 2026 Subaru Outback for Sale nearDecatur, IL

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback a good car?

The 2026 Subaru Outback earns an expert rating of 7.2/10. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

The redesigned Outback is positioned as an SUV-like wagon that keeps the practicality buyers expect from the nameplate, and the expert review says it is impressive off-road while remaining comfortable on pavement. It also brings plenty of cargo space and a set of feature enhancements that fit how you actually use the vehicle.

The main trade-off is that higher trim levels have diminishing returns, so the value story is strongest before you climb too far up the lineup. Even so, the market signal is solid, with 37.1% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2026 Subaru Outback reliable?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is presented as a well-rounded choice with no notable flaws called out in price, performance, or practicality. The expert review also emphasizes that Subaru pays close attention to how customers use the vehicle, which supports the sense that it is built around everyday usefulness.

Its performance notes point to a base engine that is more capable than expected, a CVT that avoids the usual droning, and a chassis that feels composed in the city, on the highway, and on rougher terrain. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to strong fuel economy for the base engine at 25/31 mpg city/highway, which helps reduce day-to-day ownership strain.

For used buyers, the long-term risk is mainly tied to choosing the right trim and avoiding paying too much for features that do not add much value.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and verify that the specific car you want has a clean title and consistent service records. A pre-purchase inspection is especially useful if you plan to use the Outback for frequent road trips, rough roads, or light off-pavement driving. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, brake wear, and whether the cabin tech and driver-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Premium trim already brings attractive interior materials, physical climate controls, and a practical cabin layout, while higher trims add smoother materials and a more upscale feel. The Touring trim adds premium equipment, but the review says the value gains diminish as you move up the lineup.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder makes 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, while XT models use a turbocharged 2.4-liter boxer-four with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft. Both pair with a CVT and all-wheel drive, and the base engine is described as more capable than expected.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep and lane-centering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, automatic emergency steering, emergency stop assist, haptic steering wheel alerts, a driver condition monitor, adaptive headlights, and automatic high beams. The Touring trim adds a surround-view camera system, hands-free automated highway driving assist, active lane-change assist, and highway pre-curve speed control.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a 12.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto both work wirelessly. A wireless charging pad is available, and native navigation is optional on the base Premium trim and standard on all others.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine is estimated at 25/31 mpg city/highway and 27 mpg combined, while the turbocharged XT models are estimated at 21/29 mpg city/highway and 24 mpg combined.

Which 2026 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2026 Subaru Outback is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Touring, Wilderness.

Here's the short version:

• Premium: This is the best-value choice if you want the core Outback experience without paying for extras you may not need. It already delivers the practical cabin, strong everyday usability, and the standard safety suite.
• Touring: This is the trim to choose if you want the most comfort and the most advanced driver-assistance content. It adds premium features, but the review suggests the price jump is harder to justify unless you really want the extras.
• Wilderness: This is the pick for buyers who want the most adventure-ready version. It is the more off-road-focused option, but the review also suggests its higher price makes it a more specialized buy.

All 2026 Outbacks come with Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite, and the Touring trim adds the most advanced features.
