CarGurus Analysis: 2026 Nissan Altima
Summary
With 5,008 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,354, 38.4% of 2026 Nissan Altimas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
88.7% of 2026 Altima models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2026 Nissan Altima stands out as a midsize sedan that leans more toward quiet, practical transportation than excitement, yet still offers a lot of value for the money. It has sleek, sporty-looking styling, and Nissan says the current generation is fractionally larger overall than both the previous Altima and the flagship Maxima. Buyers also get a roomy cabin, a long list of driver-assistance features, and available all-wheel drive, which many rivals do not offer.
For 2026, the Altima is available in just two grades: SV and SR. The SV can be upgraded with the SV special-edition package to enlarge the touchscreen, add dual-zone climate controls, and add a moonroof, while the SV Premium package further upgrades the SV grade. Standard Safety Shield 360 brings automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, rear automatic braking, lane-departure warning, radar-based blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and high-beam assist. The infotainment setup also includes a touchscreen with physical knobs and buttons, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, USB ports, a Bose premium audio system, and active noise cancellation.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Altima uses a CVT, which dulls the driving experience, and its resale values are not strong. Still, it remains appealing because it combines good fuel economy, plenty of equipment, and a lower price than many equivalent midsize sedans.

Is the 2026 Nissan Altima a good car?
The 2026 Nissan Altima is a midsize sedan that leans more toward quiet, practical transportation than excitement, but it still offers a lot of value for the money. You get a roomy cabin, a long list of driver-assistance features, available all-wheel drive, and a lower price than many equivalent midsize sedans.
That value proposition is reinforced by the market: 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals. If you want a sedan that prioritizes comfort, equipment, and everyday usefulness over driving thrills, this Altima fits that brief well.
Is the 2026 Nissan Altima reliable?
The 2026 Nissan Altima is positioned as a practical, easy-to-live-with midsize sedan with a roomy cabin and a strong set of standard driver-assistance features. It also includes useful everyday tech such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, and active noise cancellation.
The main caution is that it uses a CVT, which can make the driving experience feel less engaging, and its resale values are not strong. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about value retention and drivetrain feel than about chasing excitement.
What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Nissan Altima?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should also prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a car with incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the cabin and electronics match the seller’s description.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Nissan Altima?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,997 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 88.7% of listings are accident-free.
Should I buy a 2026 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2026 if:
- 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
Consider the 2025 if:
- It adds a value-packed special edition package and keeps available all-wheel drive.
The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year choice with strong market availability and a practical feature set, the 2026 is the cleaner path. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2025 is worth a look because it keeps the Altima’s core strengths while potentially opening up more budget-friendly options.
