New & Used 2026 Mazda CX-50 for Sale nearMount Pleasant, MI

Is the 2026 Mazda CX-50 a good car?

The 2026 Mazda CX-50 earns an 6.2/10 expert rating, and the model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

It’s aimed at you if you want a compact crossover SUV that mixes driving enjoyment with everyday practicality, and it leans into style and substance rather than maximum utility. The CX-50 is described as safe and fun to drive, with strong design and a class-above cabin feel, but it also gives up space to rivals and can feel let down by its tech and ride comfort.

Trade-offs: the ride is stiff, the seats are firm, and the infotainment system can be frustrating. The turbo engine is also thirsty.

With 37.0% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you a decent number of value opportunities if you’re willing to shop carefully.

Is the 2026 Mazda CX-50 reliable?

The 2026 Mazda CX-50 is presented as a well-built compact crossover with a strong safety record and a straightforward mechanical lineup, which supports confidence for everyday use. Its standard all-wheel drive and conventional gas, turbo, and hybrid powertrains keep the formula familiar, and the hybrid uses proven Toyota-sourced components.

The performance notes point to a six-speed automatic, a naturally aspirated base engine, and a hybrid system built around established hardware, which suggests a relatively conventional ownership experience. Mazda also includes standard driver-assist coverage across the lineup, and the hybrid’s fuel-saving setup can help reduce operating strain if you drive a lot.

Mazda does not offer especially compelling ownership perks, so long-term ownership risk for used buyers is more about maintenance costs and comfort with the tech than about any obvious reliability red flags.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mazda CX-50?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a turbo model or a higher-trim vehicle with more equipment to verify. Focus on ride comfort, seat condition, and whether the infotainment system works the way you expect, since those are the areas most likely to affect day-to-day satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2.5 S lineup includes Select, Preferred, Meridian Edition, and Premium, while the turbo lineup adds a standard trim, Meridian Edition, and Premium Plus; the Hybrid lineup includes Preferred, Premium, and Premium Plus. Base trims are lighter on audio equipment, while higher trims add features like a 12-speaker Bose system, a head-up display, and more advanced camera and lighting tech.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 2.5-liter gasoline four-cylinder, a turbocharged version, or a hybrid system. The base engine makes 187 horsepower, the turbo boosts output substantially depending on fuel, and the hybrid is rated at 38 mpg combined.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activesense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, vehicle exit warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, a rear-seat alert system, and a driver-attention monitor. Preferred models add front and rear parking sensors, Premium models add traffic-sign recognition and automatic speed-limit assist, and Hybrid Premium Plus and Turbo models add adaptive front lighting.
• Infotainment: A 10.25-inch infotainment screen is standard, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but touchscreen use is limited to those phone integrations. The native Mazda Connect system uses a control knob and buttons, so make sure you’re comfortable with that setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5 S is rated at 26 mpg combined, the 2.5 Turbo at 25 mpg combined, and the Hybrid at 38 mpg combined. The turbo’s real-world fuel use can be notably worse than its official rating.

Which 2026 Mazda CX-50 trim should I buy?

The 2026 Mazda CX-50 is offered in 9 trim levels: Select, Preferred, Meridian Edition, Premium, standard trim, Premium Plus, Hybrid Preferred, Hybrid Premium, and Hybrid Premium Plus.

Here's the short version:

• Select: This is the entry point if you want the CX-50’s core style, standard all-wheel drive, and standard safety tech without paying for extras you may not need.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful comfort and convenience upgrades while staying below the more expensive luxury-leaning versions.
• Meridian Edition: Choose this if you want the off-road-leaning look and all-terrain tires, but keep in mind it is more about image than true trail capability.
• Premium: This is the trim to target if you want a more upscale feel, since it adds features like traffic-sign recognition and automatic speed-limit assist.
• standard trim: This is the simplest turbo choice if you want the stronger engine without stepping up to the more expensive turbo variants.
• Premium Plus: This is the most fully equipped turbo trim, and it suits you if you want the richest feature set and the most advanced camera and driver-assist equipment.
• Hybrid Preferred: This is the smart pick if fuel economy matters most, since it gives you the hybrid powertrain without pushing you into the priciest hybrid trims.
• Hybrid Premium: This is the middle-ground hybrid if you want efficiency plus a more upscale equipment mix.
• Hybrid Premium Plus: This is the top hybrid choice if you want the most complete feature set, including the head-up display.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but Preferred, Premium, Hybrid Premium Plus, and turbo models add extra features as you move up.

Is the 2026 Mazda CX-50 safe?

The 2026 Mazda CX-50 earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in every safety test except rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it its highest Top Safety Pick+ award, though it earns a Poor rating in a whiplash prevention test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s standard i-Activesense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, vehicle exit warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, a rear-seat alert system, and a driver-attention monitor. Preferred models add front and rear parking sensors, Premium models add traffic-sign recognition and automatic speed-limit assist, and Hybrid Premium Plus and Turbo models add adaptive front lighting.

The higher-spec Turbo Premium Plus also adds surround-view camera capability, active blind-spot assist, lane-centering support at lower speeds, intersection assist with braking, front cross-traffic alert with braking, and rear automatic braking. The main caveat is the Poor whiplash result, plus some false warnings noted during testing.

Should I buy a 2026 Mazda CX-50 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• It keeps the CX-50’s strong safety ratings and adds only minor changes for the model year.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It offers a similarly stylish, fun-to-drive compact SUV with a new hybrid powertrain and strong efficiency.

The bottom line: If you want the latest version with strong safety credentials and a healthy share of good deals, the 2026 is the cleaner choice. If you’re shopping mainly on price and want a similar formula, the 2025 is worth a look.
