How much does the 2026 Kia Sportage cost?

Prices have softened 10.54% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,049 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.

Is the 2026 Kia Sportage a good car?

The 2026 Kia Sportage earns an expert rating of 7.3/10.

The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

You’re looking at a compact crossover that emphasizes stylish design, impressive technology, and strong safety ratings. The refreshed 2026 model also brings revised styling, so it feels current without changing its core mission as a practical everyday SUV.

The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and the X-Pro Prestige’s weaker value proposition. That means you should expect competence and polish more than excitement, especially if you’re shopping for a family-friendly crossover rather than a driver’s SUV.

With 37.8% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Kia Sportage reliable?

The 2026 Kia Sportage leans on a long-running nameplate, a current-generation platform, and a straightforward non-hybrid 2.5-liter four-cylinder setup that should be familiar in everyday use. The expert evaluation also points to competent execution rather than complexity for its own sake, which is usually a good sign when you’re thinking about used ownership.

The performance notes describe the base engine as doing just fine, and the powertrain lineup includes conventional gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Kia’s 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and five-year/60,000-mile limited warranty are also a meaningful ownership perk if you’re buying used and still have coverage left.

For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is less about outright mechanical drama and more about choosing the right trim and condition so you don’t overpay for features you won’t use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Kia Sportage?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim example or one with more complex equipment. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, interior wear, and whether the features you want actually work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X-Line and X-Pro models add different exterior and wheel/tire treatments, while X-Pro models are the ones with all-terrain tires on 17-inch wheels. Base LX models miss wireless phone charging, which is standard on all but the base trim.
• Powertrain: Non-hybrid models use a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, while hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions use a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with an electric motor for more output.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane following assist, and front and rear parking sensors. Higher trims add navigation-linked adaptive cruise control, Highway Driving Assist with automated lane centering, a surround-view camera system, and Blind-spot View Monitor.
• Infotainment: A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen are standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless phone charging is standard on all but the base LX trim level, and X-Line and X-Pro models feature digital key functionality.
• Fuel efficiency: The non-hybrid Sportage is rated at 28 mpg combined, with 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway in FWD form. The X-Pro is rated at 24 mpg combined, with 23 mpg city and 26 mpg highway.

Which 2026 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2026 Kia Sportage is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, EX, SX, SX-Prestige, X-Line, and X-Pro Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Sportage experience with the standard tech and safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting cost and don’t need the extra convenience features found higher up.
• EX: This is the trim to watch if you want a better-equipped daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder. It adds meaningful comfort and convenience over LX while staying focused on value.
• SX: This trim is the step-up choice for shoppers who want more premium tech and a richer feature set. It’s a good fit if you care about the Sportage’s upscale presentation and want more equipment without going all the way to the top.
• SX-Prestige: This is the more luxurious version of the mid-to-upper range, and it’s the one to consider if you want a more polished feel and more available equipment. It’s best for buyers who plan to keep the SUV a while and want a more complete package.
• X-Line: This is the style-and-capability pick, with different front and rear bumpers, a tread-like stitching pattern for SynTex upholstery, and standard AWD. It suits you if you want a more rugged look without moving into the X-Pro’s more specialized setup.
• X-Pro Prestige: This is the most expensive non-hybrid Sportage and the one with the strongest off-road styling and hardware cues, including all-terrain tires and standard AWD. It’s the right choice only if you specifically want that look and capability, but it’s also the trim where value is weakest.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but higher trims add navigation-linked adaptive cruise control, Highway Driving Assist, and available surround-view and blind-spot camera features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Kia Sportage?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,049 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.54% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 93.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,492, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $28,404 sits slightly below last year's $31,749.

That price movement suggests the Sportage has softened enough to create a better buying window now than it had a year ago. If you’re a future seller, that also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on trim, condition, and how well the vehicle is equipped.

The good news is that the current market still shows meaningful demand, so a clean, well-kept example should remain competitive. The challenge is that higher-priced trims may be harder to justify unless they’re priced carefully against the broader market.

Is the 2026 Kia Sportage safe?

The 2026 Kia Sportage received the highest Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and earns five-star ratings in frontal and side crash testing, and four-star ratings for rollover crash performance from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, lane following assist, and front and rear parking sensors. It also adds fatigue warning, rear-seat reminder functionality, and door-opening alerts for oncoming cars or cyclists.

Higher trims add navigation-linked adaptive cruise control, Highway Driving Assist with automated lane centering, a surround-view camera system, and Blind-spot View Monitor. That means you can get a very robust safety package, especially if you move beyond the base trim.

Should I buy a 2026 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 37.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.54% compared with last year.
• The refreshed styling and strong safety credentials make this year especially appealing if you want the latest look and a well-rounded package.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest styling and a strong safety story, the 2026 is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2026 gives you a compelling mix of price softness, inventory, and updated presentation.
