Is the 2026 Kia EV9 a good car?

Yes — the 2026 Kia EV9 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Technology.

The EV9 stands out as a three-row electric SUV that blends practicality with a distinctive design and a strong technology focus. It is aimed at you if you want an EV that is roomy, comfortable, safe, and well-equipped, and it adds usable range, fast charging, and compatibility with Tesla Superchargers.

The main trade-offs are its high sticker price and the fact that certain Highway Driving Assist behaviors can be intrusive. The steering wheel also blocks the climate system display.

With 28.6% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Kia EV9 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The EV9 is presented as a well-built, practical electric SUV with strong everyday usability, and its expert review emphasizes that it is roomy, comfortable, safe, and well-equipped. Its performance notes also point to responsive electric motors, a comfortable ride, and solid structural rigidity over rough pavement.

It also benefits from fast charging and home-charging flexibility, which can make ownership easier if you can charge overnight. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic capability and more about making sure the battery, charging behavior, and driver-assistance systems are working as intended.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Kia EV9?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on an EV with advanced charging and driver-assistance hardware. Focus on battery condition, charging performance, software behavior, and whether the cabin tech and safety systems operate cleanly and consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Light, Wind, Land, and GT-Line are the trims named in the review. The base setup is the single-motor rear-wheel-drive Light, while the other trims move to dual-motor all-wheel drive and add more equipment, with the GT-Line bringing upscale touches such as a simulated suede headliner, ambient interior lighting, and a 12-inch head-up display.
• Powertrain: The EV9 is offered with single-motor rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive. The single-motor Light can be paired with standard-range or long-range battery packs, while the dual-motor setup delivers stronger output and up to 283 miles of range.
• Safety package: Highway Driving Assist is standard and pairs adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist and lane-change assist. Standard safety tech also includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with intersection braking assistance, front cross-traffic braking assistance, oncoming collision mitigation, evasive steering assist, and blind-spot monitors with steering assistance.
• Infotainment: The EV9 uses triple screens in a curved display layout, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless smartphone charging is standard, and Kia Connect services and digital key tech are part of the package.
• Range & charging: The EV9 offers up to 305 miles of range, a 76.1-kWh standard-range battery, and a 99.8-kWh long-range battery. DC fast charging can reach up to 350 kilowatts, and Kia says a 10% to 80% recharge can take 24 minutes.
• Battery health: On a used EV, ask for battery state-of-health information if available, review charging habits, and confirm whether the vehicle has spent most of its life on home charging or frequent DC fast charging. You should also check how much of the battery warranty remains and verify that charging speeds and range estimates still look normal in real-world use.

Which 2026 Kia EV9 trim should I buy?

The 2026 Kia EV9 is offered in 4 trim levels: Light, Wind, Land, and GT-Line.

Here's the short version:

• Light: This is the entry point and the only trim with the single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup. It is the trim to consider if you want the EV9’s core range and practicality without paying for the more expensive dual-motor versions.
• Wind: This trim moves you into the dual-motor all-wheel-drive lineup, making it a sensible step up if you want the stronger standard hardware without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Land: This is another dual-motor all-wheel-drive choice that sits above the lower trims and should appeal if you want a more upscale EV9 without going fully loaded.
• GT-Line: This is the most premium version, with the strongest feature set in the review, including the 12-inch head-up display, simulated suede headliner, ambient lighting, and other upscale touches. If you want the best-equipped EV9, this is the one to target.

Highway Driving Assist is standard, and Kia’s safety tech is broad across the lineup.

The EV9 earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, and it earned the highest Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The EV9’s standard safety suite includes forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking with intersection braking assistance, front cross-traffic braking assistance, oncoming collision mitigation, evasive steering assist, blind-spot monitors with steering assistance, and Highway Driving Assist with adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, and lane-change assist.

A caveat to keep in mind is that Highway Driving Assist can be inconsistent in some situations, and the review notes that it became intrusive enough on one freeway stretch that it was turned off.

Should I buy a 2026 Kia EV9 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 28.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert or safety highlight specific to this year from the review: the 2026 model adds a longer range, a Nightfall Edition package, fresh colors, and a new Terrain driving mode.

The bottom line: If you want the EV9 with the latest updates and strong safety and tech credentials, the 2026 model is the one to prioritize. If you are shopping mainly on price, a different year may make sense, but the 2026’s combination of range, charging speed, and equipment makes it the cleaner choice for most buyers.
