Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns an 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The 2026 model brings a meaningful refresh, including a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, updated exterior styling, and a larger touchscreen inside. That lines up well with its role as a midsize SUV that still leans into towing and off-road use while adding a more modern cabin.

The trade-offs are clear: the turbo-four is impressive, but the lineup loses the Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid, and the SUV still carries middling fuel economy and a poor value-for-money reputation. Even so, it remains a strong fit if you want capability first and style second.

Good and great deals account for 36.8% of listings, which suggests there’s still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is presented as a familiar, well-established midsize SUV with a refreshed powertrain and updated cabin tech, which helps it feel current without changing its core formula. The new Hurricane 4 Turbo is described as impressive, with broad power delivery that makes passing feel confident and quick, while the standard V6 remains part of the lineup on base trims.

Jeep also expects the new turbo-four to return up to 27 mpg combined, which is a useful efficiency improvement over the V6’s 22 mpg combined. The model’s three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty are in line with most mainstream brands.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Grand Cherokee’s appeal still depends heavily on trim and equipment, so the wrong configuration can leave you paying more without getting the features or efficiency you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and verify that the specific truck you’re considering matches the equipment you want, especially because the lineup changes meaningfully by trim. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on the powertrain, suspension, and any available driver-assistance or camera features, since those are the areas where trim differences matter most. Pay close attention to condition and equipment completeness if you’re shopping near the top of the range, where the value proposition depends on getting the right options.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from Laredo and Laredo X to Laredo Altitude, Limited, Limited Reserve, Limited Altitude, and Summit. Base trims use cloth upholstery and smaller wheels, while higher trims add leatherette or genuine leather, larger wheels, and more upscale cabin materials.
• Powertrain: The base Laredo and Laredo X use the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, while higher trims get the Hurricane 4 Turbo. The turbo-four is the stronger engine, and Jeep says it can return up to 27 mpg combined while also delivering the Grand Cherokee’s 6,200-pound towing capacity.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Active Drive Assist is available starting on the Laredo Altitude trim.
• Infotainment: The Laredo and Laredo X use a 10.2-inch touchscreen, while Laredo Altitude and higher trims get a 12.3-inch screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and all trims have a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: Jeep expects the Hurricane four-cylinder to return up to 27 mpg combined, compared with 22 mpg combined for the V6.

Which 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 7 trim levels: Laredo, Laredo X, Laredo Altitude, Limited, Limited Reserve, Limited Altitude, and Summit.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core size, standard safety tech, and V6 power without stretching the budget. It’s the simplest version, but it still gives you the basics of the lineup.
• Laredo X: Choose this if you want a slightly different starting point in the same basic trim family. It keeps the value-focused approach while staying close to the base setup.
• Laredo Altitude: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it unlocks the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen and the available Active Drive Assist system, while also adding a more upscale appearance package.
• Limited: This is the most balanced mainstream choice if you want a nicer cabin and more equipment without jumping too far up the price ladder. It also offers the surround-view camera system as an option.
• Limited Reserve: This is the sweet spot for shoppers who want a more premium feel, including genuine leather upholstery and stronger value than the outgoing model it replaces.
• Limited Altitude: Pick this if you want the Limited’s equipment with a blackout look and larger wheels.
• Summit: This is the top luxury-oriented choice, with 21-inch wheels, a black roof, the most advanced 4WD system in the lineup, and the richest audio and cabin tech.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but Active Drive Assist starts only on the Laredo Altitude trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and focused on condition.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,335 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.5% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have current crash-test ratings listed here, but the similar 2025 model earned a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five stars in front and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover evaluation. The 2025 model was also an IIHS 2024 Top Safety Pick, with top “Good” scores in the small overlap front and updated side crash tests and a “Marginal” score for seat belt reminders.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Active Drive Assist is available starting on the Laredo Altitude trim, and Jeep says it improved the system’s behavior for 2026.

Should I buy a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, updated styling, and larger touchscreen make this the most modern-feeling version of the Grand Cherokee in this set.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of the Grand Cherokee’s formula, the 2026 model is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, especially if you’re willing to trade away the newest engine and cabin updates for a lower asking price.
