Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns an expert rating of 6.83/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

That score lines up with what Jeep is trying to do here: keep the Grand Cherokee stylish, capable, and relevant after a meaningful refresh. The new turbocharged four-cylinder adds fresh appeal, the exterior gets updated styling, and the cabin gains a bigger touchscreen, so the 2026 model feels more modern without abandoning its core mission as a utility vehicle.

The trade-offs are familiar. Fuel economy is middling, and the best version is called out for its price. Even so, if you want a midsize SUV that still leans into image and ability, this one remains compelling.

Good and great deals account for 36.2% of listings, which suggests there is at least some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is presented as a familiar, conventional SUV rather than a complicated one, with a standard V6 on lower trims and the new turbocharged four-cylinder on higher trims. Jeep’s own description of the Hurricane 4 Turbo emphasizes advanced hardware such as a variable-geometry turbo and pre-chamber ignition, and it is positioned as a strong, broad-shouldered engine rather than a finicky one.

Jeep also says the new engine should return up to 27 mpg combined, which is a useful efficiency gain over the V6’s 22 mpg combined. On the ownership side, the warranty coverage is mainstream, with a three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the most desirable versions sit higher in the lineup, so you’ll want to pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition before stretching for a pricier trim.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report, because a clean listing mix does not replace verification on the individual vehicle you’re considering. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re shopping a higher-trim example with more equipment and more complexity. Focus on condition details that matter on a midsize SUV: tire wear, brake condition, interior wear, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific vehicle.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup is reshaped around Laredo, Limited, and Summit, with the base Laredo and Laredo X getting 18-inch wheels and cloth upholstery, while higher trims add leatherette or genuine leather. The Laredo Altitude brings black 18-inch wheels and a standard Black Appearance Package, and the Summit gets 21-inch wheels and a black roof.
• Powertrain: The base Laredo and Laredo X use the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 with 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, while other trims get the Hurricane 4 Turbo with 324 hp and 332 lb-ft. Both engines use an eight-speed automatic, and both are available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Active Drive Assist is available starting on the Laredo Altitude, so lower trims miss that hands-free highway system.
• Infotainment: The Laredo and Laredo X use a 10.2-inch touchscreen, while a larger 12.3-inch screen is available on Laredo Altitude and higher trims. All trims get a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
• Fuel efficiency: Jeep expects the Hurricane four-cylinder to return up to 27 mpg combined, compared with the V6’s 22 mpg combined.

Which 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 3 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, and Summit.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it keeps the Grand Cherokee formula accessible with the V6, 18-inch wheels, cloth upholstery, and the standard safety and infotainment basics. It makes sense if you want the nameplate and capability without chasing luxury features.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top. You can get the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen here, and Jeep positions the upper-middle trims as the sweet spot for equipment versus price.
• Summit: This is the most luxurious version, with the Hurricane 4 Turbo, 21-inch wheels, a black roof, genuine leather, a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, and a front-passenger touchscreen. It’s the one to buy if you want the most content and don’t mind paying for it.

Active Drive Assist starts on the Laredo Altitude, so lower trims miss that hands-free highway driving feature.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,478 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.2% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have published crash-test ratings from NHTSA in the source data, but the similar 2025 model earned a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in front and side crash tests and four-star ratings in the rollover evaluation. The 2025 model also earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating, with top “Good” scores in the small overlap front and updated side crash tests and a “Marginal” score for seat belt reminders.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep makes a strong safety case with standard adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Active Drive Assist is available starting on the Laredo Altitude trim, so if you want the hands-free highway system, you need to shop above the base models.

Should I buy a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 update brings a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, updated styling, and a bigger touchscreen.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of the Grand Cherokee formula, the 2026 is the one to target because it adds meaningful updates without changing the SUV’s core strengths. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, especially if you can find the equipment you want at a lower asking price.
