Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Jeep’s refresh gives you a more modern Grand Cherokee without changing its core mission as a stylish, capable midsize SUV. The new turbocharged four-cylinder engine is a highlight, and the SUV still stands out for towing and off-road ability. The trade-offs are familiar: fuel economy is middling, and the best-equipped version is expensive.

The market backdrop is supportive, with 40.3% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

The 2026 Grand Cherokee is built around familiar Jeep hardware, with a standard V6 in the base trims and the new Hurricane 4 Turbo in higher trims, both paired with an eight-speed automatic. The turbo-four is described as broad in its power delivery, with peak power available across a wide range of rpm, which helps it feel responsive in everyday driving. Jeep also says the new engine returns up to 27 mpg combined, which is a useful efficiency gain over the V6.

Jeep’s three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty provide the usual coverage you’d expect in this class. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the most desirable versions are concentrated higher in the lineup, so repair and replacement costs can be more painful if you buy a heavily equipped example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re shopping a higher-trim example with more equipment to verify. Focus on condition, feature operation, and whether the specific trim has the equipment you want, since the lineup changes meaningfully as you move up.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup is reorganized around Laredo, Limited, and Summit, with sub-levels that change the look and equipment. Base Laredo and Laredo X models have cloth upholstery and 18-inch wheels, while higher trims add leatherette or genuine leather, larger wheels, and more upscale features.
• Powertrain: The base Laredo and Laredo X use the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6, while other trims get the Hurricane 4 Turbo. The turbo-four makes 324 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque on regular gasoline, and Jeep says it can return up to 27 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Active Drive Assist is available starting on the Laredo Altitude trim.
• Infotainment: The Laredo and Laredo X use a 10.2-inch touchscreen, while a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen is available on Laredo Altitude and higher trims. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and all trims have a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: Jeep expects the Hurricane four-cylinder engine to return up to 27 mpg combined, compared with 22 mpg combined for the V6.

Which 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 3 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, and Summit.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point, and it keeps the V6, 18-inch wheels, cloth upholstery, and the smaller 10.2-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the Grand Cherokee experience at the lowest starting price, but it’s the least upscale version.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds a more premium feel without jumping all the way to the top of the range. You can get the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen here, and the trim also opens the door to more available equipment, including a surround-view camera system.
• Summit: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with 21-inch wheels, a black roof, genuine leather upholstery, a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, and a front-passenger touchscreen. It’s the most feature-rich version, but it’s also the priciest.

Safety-package note: Active Drive Assist is available starting on the Laredo Altitude trim, which sits within the broader Laredo family.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This is a favorable time to shop if you want a used Grand Cherokee, because the market shows a healthy share of discounted listings and a very clean inventory mix.

• Deal availability: 40.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,334 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.5% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2026 Grand Cherokee comes standard with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep also offers Active Drive Assist starting on the Laredo Altitude trim, and it says the system has been improved for smoother transitions to lower levels of automation. The 2026 model’s crash-test ratings were not available at the time of writing.

Should I buy a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 40.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 update brings a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, updated styling, a bigger touchscreen, and a restructured trim lineup.

The bottom line: The 2026 Grand Cherokee is the one to target if you want the freshest version of this SUV’s formula, especially with the new turbo-four and updated cabin tech. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2026’s refresh gives you the most current mix of capability, features, and market availability.
