Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

It fits your needs well if you want a practical family crossover with a distinctive look, because the 2026 model pairs a boxy, thoughtfully crafted interior with added safety features and minor equipment updates. It also stands out for everyday usefulness, with ample storage cubbies and compartments, and it’s presented as an excellent value.

The main trade-offs are clear: the design is polarizing, fuel economy is poor, and the third row is cramped. Those drawbacks matter most if you want maximum efficiency or the most usable third row in the class.

With 44.6% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you a decent amount of shopping leverage.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is framed as a strong value with an outstanding warranty and roadside assistance coverage, which helps support confidence for long-term ownership. Its new automatic transmission is described as smoother and more unobtrusive than the previous dual-clutch setup, and the overall package is presented as easy to live with on a daily basis.

Hyundai also includes complimentary lifetime Bluelink+ connected services for original owners, which adds useful ownership perks such as automatic collision notification, emergency assistance, and remote functions.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Santa Fe’s poor fuel economy and polarizing XRT-focused setup can make the wrong trim feel costly to live with over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report, verify service records, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one that may have seen family-duty wear. Focus on overall condition, because the Santa Fe’s appeal depends heavily on how well its interior, tech, and safety equipment have been maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy trims span the lineup. The base trims use a 4.2-inch center panel, while the Limited and Calligraphy get a larger 12.3-inch display. The XRT adds a more rugged look, all-terrain tires, and a lifted suspension, but it also brings the least-efficient setup in the range.
• Powertrain: A standard 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional on most trims, and the XRT gets standard all-wheel drive plus off-road-oriented hardware and drive modes.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. On higher trims, adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist operate as Highway Driving Assist, and a driver-attention monitor is included. Some advanced camera features are not part of this setup.
• Infotainment: A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluelink+ connected services. A Bose premium audio system is standard from the Limited trim upward.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard turbocharged engine is rated at 23 mpg combined for AWD models, while the XRT drops to 21 mpg combined. The hybrid is rated at 34 mpg combined with AWD.

Which 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point if you want the Santa Fe’s core family-SUV strengths without paying for extras. You still get the boxy design, the practical cabin, and the standard tech and safety foundation, but it’s the trim where you’ll feel the most feature restraint.
• SEL: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it sits above the base trim without pushing you into luxury pricing. It should be the trim to target if you want a more balanced mix of equipment and value.
• XRT: This is the one to choose if you actually want the rugged look and off-road-oriented hardware. It adds all-terrain tires, a raised suspension, extra ground clearance, and off-road drive modes, but it also sacrifices fuel economy and is the least-efficient version.
• Limited: This is the step-up trim for shoppers who want a more upscale feel. It adds the larger 12.3-inch driver display and a Bose premium audio system, making it a stronger pick if comfort and tech matter more than price.
• Calligraphy: This is the top-end choice if you want the most premium Santa Fe experience. It builds on the upper-trim equipment and is aimed at buyers who want the most polished version of the SUV.

On safety, the Santa Fe includes a strong standard package, and higher trims add Highway Driving Assist functionality.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

This looks like a favorable time to shop if you want a used Santa Fe, because the market shows a healthy share of discounted listings and a very high share of clean inventory.

• Deal availability: 44.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,757 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 94.6% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crashworthiness and four-star rollover resistance. It also earns a 2026 Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai equips the Santa Fe with a long list of standard safety features, including junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. On higher trims, adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist operate as Highway Driving Assist, and a driver-attention monitor is included to help keep tabs on the driver.

One caveat is that navigation-based speed and curve control for adaptive cruise control can slow the Santa Fe too much in real-world use.

Should I buy a 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 44.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• It adds a new transmission, added safety features, and minor equipment and packaging updates.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It emphasizes bold styling and a more spacious-feeling family setup.

The bottom line: The 2026 is the better pick if you want the most polished version of this Santa Fe generation, especially with its updated transmission and added safety content. If you’re shopping mainly on price, the 2025 can still make sense, particularly if you find a cleaner deal on a well-equipped example.
