Is the 2026 Honda Civic a good car?

The 2026 Honda Civic earns an expert rating of 6.83/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

You’re getting a compact car that blends broad appeal with a more polished cabin than many rivals, and it comes in sedan or hatchback form with gas or hybrid power. The Civic also remains satisfying to drive even with the base engine, which helps explain why it stays one of the top-selling compact cars in America.

The trade-offs are clear: you pay a premium for it, it can be noisy at speed, and its technology is dated. Even so, the Civic’s mix of body styles and powertrain choices makes it a strong fit if you want an everyday car that feels a bit more upscale than the class norm.

Good and great deals account for 36.8% of listings, so there’s at least some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2026 Honda Civic reliable?

The 2026 Honda Civic is described as a dependable model, and Honda’s broader reputation for reliability supports that view. It’s also presented as the kind of car you buy, drive for a long time, and spend very little to keep running.

The performance notes reinforce that impression: the base 2.0-liter engine and CVT are straightforward, the drivetrain is tuned for everyday use, and the car’s behavior is described as efficient, responsive, and enjoyable rather than complicated. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to strong value retention and low running costs, with the hybrid called out as especially fuel-efficient.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about whether you’re comfortable paying more upfront for a car that may still cost a premium in the market.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda Civic?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean history matters even when the market looks healthy. Prioritize a close inspection of the cabin, infotainment behavior, and road-noise levels, since those are the areas most likely to affect day-to-day satisfaction. If you’re comparing trims, make sure the equipment matches what you expect before you buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans sedans and hatchbacks, gas-only and hybrid powertrains, and performance variants such as the Si and Type R. The Civic Sport adds a more upscale look and feel than the base LX, but the base trim still carries a simpler cabin and less impressive infotainment presentation.
• Powertrain: The LX and Sport use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The hybrids use Honda’s Two Motor Hybrid powertrain and are described as offering remarkable power and impressive efficiency.
• Safety package: Every Civic gets Honda Sensing, which includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are not on the LX, but they are on the Sport.
• Infotainment: Standard tech includes a 7-inch digital instrument panel and 7-inch touchscreen, with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims such as the Si and Sport Touring Hybrid get larger displays, Google built-in, Alexa built-in, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The Civic returns 31 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway, and 34 mpg combined. On a test loop, it returned 31.9 mpg.

Which 2026 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda Civic is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, Sport, Sport Hybrid, Sport Touring Hybrid, and Si.

Here’s the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Civic’s core strengths without the extra equipment. It’s the trim to consider if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup and don’t mind the simpler tech and fewer convenience features.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more polished appearance and upgrades the audio system to eight speakers. It also gets blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which are important safety upgrades over the LX.
• Sport Hybrid: Choose this if you want the hybrid powertrain and its stronger efficiency story. The content points to the hybrid setup as the best choice if you can afford it.
• Sport Touring Hybrid: This is the most feature-rich hybrid trim, with larger displays, Google built-in, Alexa built-in, wireless smartphone charging, and more. It’s the right pick if you want the most modern tech in the Civic lineup.
• Si: This is the enthusiast choice, with a non-hybrid turbocharged gas engine and a manual transmission only. It’s the sportiest sedan in the range and suits you if driving engagement matters more than comfort or convenience.

The Sport Touring Hybrid has exclusive front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking, while the LX misses blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings before you commit.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,001 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 88.1% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Honda Civic safe?

The 2026 Honda Civic earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, including four-star frontal impact, five-star side impact, and five-star rollover resistance ratings.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard on every Civic and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are not available on the LX, but they are standard on the Sport. The Sport Touring Hybrid also adds front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.

One caveat is that lane-centering assist can feel intrusive without adaptive cruise control, and the adaptive cruise itself can brake more aggressively than you may want in traffic.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• It carries over unchanged after a mild 2025 update, while still offering sedan and hatchback body styles plus hybrid, Si, and Type R variants.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It adds a mid-cycle refresh and expands the powertrain lineup.

The bottom line: The 2026 is the better pick if you want the latest version of this well-rounded Civic and you’re comfortable paying a premium for it. If you’re shopping with price sensitivity in mind, the 2025 may be worth a look because it brings the refresh and still delivers the Civic’s core strengths.
