Is the 2026 Honda Civic a good car?

The 2026 Honda Civic earns an expert rating of 6.83/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

That score lines up with the Civic’s broad appeal: you get sedans and hatchbacks, gas and hybrid powertrains, and even Si and Type R variants, all wrapped in a cabin that feels more premium than the price suggests. The trade-off is that you’re paying a premium for the class, and the Civic still has some drawbacks, including noisy behavior at speed and outdated technology.

For shoppers who want a compact car that feels satisfying behind the wheel and has a polished interior, the Civic remains an appealing choice. The market also shows 32.0% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Honda Civic reliable?

The 2026 Honda Civic is presented as a dependable model, and Honda’s reputation for reliability is part of its appeal. The expert review also says this is the kind of car you buy, drive for a long time, spend very little to keep running, and have it just work for years and years.

Its powertrain is described as adequate in the gas models and impressive in hybrid form, and the review notes that the Civic holds its value well over time. Honda also includes a maintenance perk in the ownership story: the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the long-term risk is less about the Civic being fragile and more about paying a premium up front for a car that may still cost more than some rivals over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda Civic?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re shopping from the more affordable end of the market. Focus on overall condition, because the Civic’s value proposition depends heavily on whether the car has been well kept and whether the equipment level matches what you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic Sport adds a more upscale look and feel than the base LX, including 18-inch wheels and a nicer cabin presentation, while the base trim is more basic and misses some equipment.
• Powertrain: The gas models use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque, while the hybrids use Honda’s Two Motor Hybrid powertrain and are the efficiency choice.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are not on the Civic LX.
• Infotainment: Standard tech includes a 7-inch digital instrument panel and 7-inch touchscreen, with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims can add larger displays, Google built-in, Alexa built-in, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The gas Civic is rated at 31 mpg city, 39 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined.

Which 2026 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda Civic is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, Sport, Sport Hybrid, Sport Touring Hybrid, and Si.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost Civic and can live with the most basic equipment.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more polished appearance, 18-inch wheels, and blind-spot monitoring plus rear cross-traffic alert.
• Sport Hybrid: Choose this if you want the hybrid powertrain and its stronger efficiency story.
• Sport Touring Hybrid: This is the most feature-rich hybrid trim, with larger displays, Google built-in, Alexa built-in, wireless smartphone charging, and more premium tech.
• Si: Pick this if you want the sportiest gas-powered Civic and are willing to trade convenience for a more enthusiast-focused setup.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are not available on the LX.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop carefully and compare listings rather than rushing into the first decent example you see.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,780 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 88.3% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Honda Civic safe?

The 2026 Honda Civic earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, including four-star frontal impact, five-star side impact, and five-star rollover resistance ratings.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, and Traffic Jam Assist. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are not available on the Civic LX, but they are included on the Sport. The Sport Touring Hybrid also adds front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking.

One caveat is that the lane-centering assist can feel intrusive without adaptive cruise control, and the adaptive cruise control can brake more abruptly than you might like in traffic.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• It carries over unchanged after the 2025 update, while still offering sedans, hatchbacks, hybrid options, and Si and Type R variants.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It brought a meaningful mid-cycle refresh and expanded the powertrain lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the latest version of this well-rounded Civic and you find a clean example at a fair price, the 2026 is the straightforward choice. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2025 may be worth a look because it delivered the recent refresh and can offer similar appeal for less money.
