New & Used 2026 Chevrolet Trax for Sale near North Carolina

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Trax a good car?

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax earns a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

It fits a clear role in Chevrolet’s lineup as the brand’s cheapest new car in the United States, and that makes it a practical alternative to compact sedans, hatchbacks, and entry-level crossover SUVs. The Trax is described as pleasant to drive, with stylish design and impressive infotainment tech helping it stand out at a low price point.

The trade-offs are just as clear: all-wheel drive is not available, and advanced safety features are not standard. Poor ergonomic design is also called out among its drawbacks.

With 40.3% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you a decent chance to find value.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Trax reliable?

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax is positioned as a budget-friendly small crossover with a conventional 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. The powertrain is described as eager off the line, confident at higher speeds, and not overly stressed, which supports a sense of everyday durability.

Chevrolet also backs it with a three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. That helps reduce early ownership risk, especially for a low-cost model that’s meant to serve as practical transportation.

The main long-term ownership concern for used buyers is that the Trax’s safety and ergonomics trade-offs may matter more over time than its mechanical simplicity.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Chevrolet Trax?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with added driver-assistance equipment. Focus on overall condition, interior wear, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re shopping.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: LS models have 17-inch steel wheels and standard cloth upholstery, while LT, 1RS, and 2RS models get alloy wheels in 17-inch, 18-inch, and 19-inch sizes, respectively. Activ models add black-painted 18-inch wheels, a black grille with chrome accents, and unique bumpers, while RS models add black Chevy Bowtie badges and RS callouts.
• Powertrain: The Trax uses a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive only.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic high beams, and a following distance indicator. Adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rear park assist are available on higher trim levels in option packages for some of the lower trim levels.
• Infotainment: LS models get an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a four-speaker audio system. Higher trims upgrade to an 11-inch touchscreen, an all-digital 8-inch instrument cluster, and a six-speaker sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Trax is EPA-rated at 29 mpg combined (28 mpg city, 31 mpg highway).

Which 2026 Chevrolet Trax trim should I buy?

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax is offered in 5 trim levels: LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Trax’s core value story with standard wireless smartphone connectivity, an 8-inch touchscreen, and the basic safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it also has the fewest comfort and tech upgrades.
• 1RS: This trim adds a more distinctive look with alloy wheels and better interior presentation than the LS, while staying close to the lower end of the price range. It’s a good fit if you want a little more style without jumping too far up the ladder.
• LT: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it brings the larger 11-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and a more upscale cabin feel without moving all the way to the top trims.
• 2RS: This trim builds on the LT’s equipment with a sportier appearance and larger 19-inch wheels. Choose it if you care more about style and presence than maximum value.
• Activ: This is the most distinctive-looking version, with black-painted wheels, unique bumpers, and a black grille with chrome accents. It suits you best if you want the Trax’s most rugged visual treatment.

Adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rear park assist are available on higher trim levels in option packages for some of the lower trim levels.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Trax safe?

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax earns the lowest Poor rating in IIHS’s updated moderate overlap front crash test, while also earning a Good rating in the small overlap front test.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assist features include automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic high beams, and a following distance indicator. Adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rear park assist are available on higher trim levels in option packages for some of the lower trim levels.

Chevy also includes its Teen Driver monitoring system, which lets parents monitor teen driving behavior and activates available safety features. The bigger concern is that full safety ratings haven’t been published yet, and the crash-test results that are available are not especially reassuring.

Should I buy a 2026 Chevrolet Trax or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 40.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 model adds two new exterior color options, with White Sands for Activ and RS models and Apex Red for RS, LS, and LT models.

The bottom line: If you want the Trax’s current mix of affordability, style, and tech, the 2026 model is the straightforward choice. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, especially if you can find a cleaner or cheaper example with the equipment you want.
